At $599, I'm sure they are not banking on selling to the many. Think of it like Hot Toys vs Mattel Retro Action. Do you want to sell a thousand items for $200 or ten thousand items for $20.
High priced luxury items are aimed at an "elite" collector who acquire overpriced items for status/obsessive compulsion. Low volume/high price model Vs high volume/low price model. Whether there are enough classic BSG fans out there willing to shell out is the question, but they have proven that there are enough Star Wars fans who paid out for similar replica helmets. I guess we'll see if the Viper helmet ever goes out on clearance.
