Thread: How to ID Mego age & repro?

  1. How to ID Mego age & repro?

Hi, I'm new to the boards and new to Mego's in general. I think they are awesome and recently picked up a couple from an ad on craigslist. It came with a few that were purported to be the classic versions along with some of the EMCE remakes. Great stuff.

Of course, I'm suspicious of some of the parts and confused about two of them. It doesn't bother me for my own sake, but I will probably look to trade or sell them in the future to fund some Marvel purchases (my preference) and want to be able to describe accurately. I reviewed the site's resources and whatnot, but have no confidence in my newbie eye to spot things. Hopefully you guys can be another resource!

The Riddler has a repro belt I think. The suit, I am not sure. I lined up the question marks against the "accessory" section of the site and it seemed legit.

    The Superman... no idea.

The Batman and Robin definitely have a repro bubble and, I'm pretty sure, card. The plastic is stamped Cast-a-Way On-line Store. But the Mego's themselves... no idea.

I imagine better pictures and the like would help, but am not sure where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The pics:

The bodies on Supes and the Riddler should be legit. As to the other stuff, check to see if there are any type of tags or any kind of marking on the clothes, boots and so on.

the batman and robin are incomplete missing gloves. batmans cape and belt look repro. not certain on robins belt. supes has a repro decal and possibly his boots, the one on the right foot looks a little too glossy. riddler belt looks suspect repro. it, batmans belt, cape and possibly robins belt may be marked DM for doctor mego replacements.

  4. Thanks for the input guys. I will look for markings. I hadn't even realized that they were incomplete! Have to start somewhere and I guess finding what parts are necessary and what's repro is a good way to dive in!

If you were to sell the Riddler what would you be asking?

Always look for the mark " DM " on boots, gloves.

    Doc Mego.

Almost got burned a few months back on a " mego robin" complete.

The owner claimed all original from head to toe.

After the purchase, checked the boots in the car with my glasses, and sure enough repro with the DM on green boots, and looked much lighter as well.

Went back in a got a 20% discount. Point being if I didn't know what to look for I could have easily brought Robin home thinkomg all this time he was original complete.
