    The Victim Mystery Solved

For years now, it's been bugging me if this 6 inch fashion doll that has been dubbed "The Victim" and said to be part of the Lincoln Monsters line of toys was a real thing or not. I had heard from people over the years who claimed to have her as a kid or saw her in an obscure catalog. However, nobody could honestly place where.

That is until I met my pal Corey at last weekend's Megomeet toy show and he handed me the 1975 Spiegel catalog, a gap in my already over the top catalog library. And this is the first thing I saw:

There she was, the "girl victim", her size and outfit have always suggested to me that she was some sort of unsold Dawn knockoff, merely added to the offering but she was marketed as something the monsters had their way with.

I still can't believe that this was a thing, part of me doubted it merely because it seemed so wrong headed, especially when you consider all the trouble Aurora got into with their girl victim model kit in 1971. It seems weird that both the Spiegel buyer and the company repping Lincoln in the United States hadn't noticed a national boycott.

Fantastic discovery! I was hoping you wouldn't wait too long to post that advertisement, I was dying to see it. Now, if only some packaging would show up, I'd love to see it, but I'm not holding my breath. But it's great to see some official evidence that this figure actually happened.

I dunno.... it could have been parallel development: EVERY old move poster had the monster carrying off the girl.

Wow, that is quite a find! The size difference between her and Frank makes me think of the little girl he accidentally drowns in the first Karloff film.

Adult or child figure...either way it's kind of creepy to see it in toy form, even if it is a trope of the horror genre.

And it still boggles my mind that neither company knew about the "victim" toy that made the national news four years prior to this. For a long time, it was the only toy NOW ever called for a boycott.

Now, if only some packaging would show up, I'd love to see it, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm convinced it's a plain mailer box sadly.

That's so cool. How many "victims" are known to exist? (approx.)

I'd bet money she originates from some early 70s Dawn knockoff set and could be found with a little patience in doll lots. I'm going to reach out to Dawn collectors and see if she's familiar.

Wow! it looks like there is no doubt that she is a Dawn knockoff that they had lying around and just threw into that set. I'm assuming you've had a chance to compare a Dawn body with the Victim... cheaper plastic on the Victim?

Found this page of Dawn knockoffs, no luck.

LOVE IT! I too doubted it to be real but in classic 1970s style it is!!!!! For some reason the old Saturday Night Live skit about unscrupulous toy companies comes to mind.
