    Van Helsing - Reboot

This is an older article, so I'm not sure if it was mentioned before - I didn't see anything after a search.

There's a Van Helsing reboot scheduled - and so far it seems that the project is going to involve Tom Cruise and the dudes who wrote Transformers, Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens - and have their fingers in a bunch of other nerd related projects.

    Let's see.
    Tom Cruise+Transformers+Cowboys&Aliens.

If that doesn't make me run for the hills, nothing will...

And I thought the original Van Helsing movie was bad....

People tend to say this a lot, but I watch A LOT of bad movies - often BECAUSE they're bad - so I don't mean this lightly: "Van Helsing" is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

It COULD have been great, but it's a horrible misfire all the way around. Jackman is likeable in almost everything, but not here. Staring at Kate Beckinsale doesn't even make it worth while. The new versions of the Universal monsters are horrible. Dracula may be the worst version put on screen. The Monster Squad had much better versions!

The only kind of Van Helsing movie I would like to see would follow the tone of Stoker's novel, and either take place before or after those events, or perhaps retell Dracula from Van Helsing's perspective alone.

For a good Van Helsing movie, go watch Hammer's "Brides of Dracula". Peter Cushing is the best Van Helsing, bar none.

the only things I liked in it were the opening bit with Hyde and the design of the Frankenstein Monster. Universal found the only missing ingredient to make it worse: Tom Cruise.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.

Hey, I don't mean anything against people who enjoyed it - I'm sure I love a lot of movies other people hated.

I think the premiss is good. I think it's somewhat proven now that bringing back the classic Universal Monsters in straight-up remakes is not going to work for modern audiences - partially (I think) because their main appeal is the 'classic' historical status they have in pop culture.

So I think the idea of Van Helsing is an interesting way to play with the mythology of the creatures, use their popularity in a different way.

My thing is that it's just so weird to me that we live in a world where it's easier now to get financing for reboots of big movies that flopped than it is to just move on to other ideas.

I like the Cruise-miester quite a bit, though he has been in some bad movies lately.

I'm looking forward to the "Tropic Thunder" follow up that's rumored

"Top Gun 2" is probably just going to be terrible - but it might be insanely amazing

The craziest movie I see on his IMDb list now is called "All You Need Is Kill", which sounds like "Groundhog Day" meets "Battle Los Angeles". Supposedly he's in a war fighting against aliens and he relives the same day again and again while he improves his fighting skills.
