"a cherished packaged toy is a cherished packaged toy"... For a child it is, the Mego adult collector wants the real thing, why would I want a Repro Scotty when the real one can be had for almost the same price or a little more for a Carded one? why is there a need to leave them in the card? they are not going to command any big bucks 20 or 30 years from now....it's a repro

The Real one is the cherished one...the Real one was the played with one, the real one takes you back to the 70's and has a story attached to it....the repro is the replacement UNTIL I get the real thing.

Sulu and Chekov have a little more to them because Mego never made them and they're neat to have. but they're new and should NOT be overpriced taking advantage of nostalgia for Mego Star Trek.

I guess my point is these have been out long enough 2-4 years, in limited quantities, and that has made them collectible. They're not nor will they ever be original Megos but in some way their time has come or is coming. I will still probably display them when I have some shelves to do it but there's no denying their value is rising.

I suspect that there will be great demand for the characters that were not part of the original set... Sulu, Chekov, Khan, the Gorn.

I can also understand the romulan price going up being an original is still pricey and hard to come by.

Just a note here. Wonder Woman never made to Pittsburgh area TRU's. We got as far as the first wave. I did my share in purchasing what was available. I bought enough to have at least one carded figure, One for display and some to customize with. At no time were these figures discounted or put on clearance either! It erks the liv'n heck out of me that some who were lucky enough to have retail access to all the waves are now profiteering from it. It seems these people only bought their figures to turn a profit. Where as I would have gladly added them to my collection!

I am very happy to see prices going up. It tells me that there was more
demand than believed and hopefully we can go back and make more figures.

If not, I will take great delight in watching people pay dearly to get what
    they ignored before.

It doesn't have to be a childhood memory to make you pay more for an item.
It only has to be in demand and not readily available. In fact, in a bizarre way,
some people only want to buy something when it becomes scarce.

Basic Economics in our Capitalism: Prices are determined by Offer Vs Demand and Profit Margins by Selling Price minus Cost of Making...

If many people wants an item that is scarce, and the seller knows it, prices would go up... That's just the way the cookie crumbles...

If true... maybe its because people that were "on the fence" panic
once an item becomes discontinued and scarcer....
"Hey if I don't buy this NOW... I may NEVER be able to track it down
    for a near affordable price."

I know I feel that way about the retro-lines characters I haven't bought yet
that I want (I've bought 6 of them and still want 5 others).
When I .... how do you say (?) .... think of my mindframe on this spaceplane, I'm Skywalker with my X-Wing like I was when I was a kid.

I was on the fence with the Star Trek's after the first wave. My local comic book store ordered them for me and I agonized over the price every time I brought them home. I now own all of them and the bridge set that I got cheap on Amazon. They're gonna look great when my display is all done. No regrets now.
