Angry I finally had to say something...

    These listings really irk me:

*MEGO MUSEUM and PLAID STALLIONS* Promo Trading Card LOT - 12 Pieces - RARE! | eBay

So, I asked the seller a question...

    Dear vintagetoysntreasures,

WHY ARE YOU ATTEMPTING TO SELL THESE?
THEY ARE FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY.
    THEY ARE NOT FOR RESALE.
    THEY ARE NOT RARE.
THEY ARE FREE TO WHOMEVER ASKS FOR THEM FROM OUR SITE.
I WILL BE VERY SURPRISED IF YOU SELL ANY OF THESE.
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF.

    - actjac01

(this is a copy/paste of my question)

I wish there was some way to warn the buyers.
    Frustrating....

I understand the frustration, but people will do what they can for a buck! Not even worth the stress.

Yeah, you all are right, of course.
Still, I have to admit, it did give me some satisfaction, albeit a small amount, and it was kinda fun, too.

By the way, he did write me back:

    Dear actjac01,

First of all, unwad your panties and lose the caps. I dont owe you an explanation or a response.
Second of all, I'd a consignor asks us to sell something and we are not familiar with it, we look to see if similar items are selling. There are lots of these cards selling so we did our best estimate.
Given that fact, I hope you have spent hours of your time sending your same message to every listing for these cards. Go find a more worthwhile cause to fight for, I can think of lots of them.

    I guess he told me!

Heck, I never knew that I even wore panties.

Hm. Learn something new every day....

Ya know, maybe he's got something there.
Maybe I should send that to the other listings as well.
Maybe loose the 'caps'... eh... naaaah.

Come to think of it, maybe there's an opportunity here, a better way to approach this, now that I got his attention.
Not get nasty, mind you...something truly constructive.

Ya never know, it might bear some positive results.

'sides, I think the ALL CAPS and the "SHAME ON YOU" was pretty nasty enough.

So, maybe picking on this seller is the wrong approach...or at least not the BEST approach.

Poor guy probably has it bad enough just trying to be a seller on eBay.

If you all are interested, I'll let you know where this goes, if anywhere.

Okay....this may make me really unpopular around here, but here goes.
I'm willing to bet every single person here owns, has bought and/or sold something that was for promotional purposes only and not for resale.
Toy store displays? Definitely not for sale...yet people get them by begging, bribing, or stealing from the trash.
Cereal Premiums? They're FREE inside the box of cereal.
    Movie posters?
EVERY movie poster older than 1985 is property of either National Screen Service or the studio and is to be returned after use, yet millions of people own them.
I have several promotional comic books from Marvel for everything from AIM toothpaste to child abuse that say right on them "for promotional use only, not for resale"
In the world of collectibles, there are TONS of things than none of us should own, buy, or sell, yet we ALL do it all the time, so we really can't get upset when it's OUR promotional item being bought or sold.
Bottom line...once somebody owns MM cards, they are technically theirs to do with whatever they want. We may not like it, but to chastise them is quite frankly hypocritical.
And for the record, NO I have not bought or sold any MM cards.

Sometimes active members sell them, at least it's happened in the past. That's the only one that still comes close to gauling me these days, I wouldn't worry about the others, nothing we can do.

I don't endorse anybody chastising people, actually I've asked in the past that folks not do it. However, if you're a member selling them, we will close your account if anything merely to limit your supply and stop you exploiting people's good will.

Legally yes. Morally no. As Brian said....there is a lot of goodwill put into these awesome cards. The people who irk the hell out of me are the ones who seriously know better. At some point, there is little doubt that people own these, that truly don't "get" the point behind these cards. The ones who do are the ones I get upset about.

I guess what hurts the most is when you see cards you still need in your set being sold. And its like heck how did they get that?
