Yup..everyone would have seen it. There wasn't a BIN on the first listing so they probably got a few offers to purchase it outright and got suspicious as to why people were willing to take it off their hands when there's easily 10-20 Mego Spideys available on ebay at any given time. A completed auction search will show the ones that sold for a couple hundred bucks in the last few months and it isn't a difficult variant to spot once you know what you're looking at.

I get what you're saying though...you don't go up to the guy selling an original Picasso for $5 at a garage sale and tell him he's selling an original Picasso for $5! You smile hand over the money and get the hell out of there ASAP before he realizes what's going on. I do give this seller credit though, it's not like they were asking $15, realized what they had and reslisted it for $300. They simply restructured the title to reflect a Circle Suit and started the bidding off right back where it was in the original listing.
