I had low expectations for it when I went to see it. If you just want to watch Kate Beckinsale being a hot looking bad *** then it works on that level. The movie seem incredibly short to me. I think it's barely 90 minutes long.
Oddly enough, my wife brought this movie home from the library right after I was reading this thread. I guess I'll find out how bad it is tonight!

i just watched it. i liked it. hell, even my wife thought it was a good action movie. much more violent than the previous 3. i don't see how people thought the first 20 minutes was boring either. i mean it sets up how humnas became aware and started a war on vampires and lycans, Selene gets captures and then violently escapes....all in the first 15 minutes

I love the Underworld Mythos and Whole Damn Idea of the Films.
I feel over all That Awakening was a complete Abortion ...., that shouldn't have been made.
5 Mintues in ...., I was thinking a Big time Ohhh No ....., Once I saw Micheal ...., It wasn't even the same Actor. whooops.... not Good.
I find the Main Background Plot of the Movie really hard to grasp too.
After Hundreds of years..., the Humans just finally find The Vampires and the Lycans. and become the main "Fight" Now ....
With the Introduction of Selenes Daughter, this Serious Jumped the Shark with that Idea.
Outside of Kate Beckinsale in a Leather Arse Tight suit ..., This Movie has little to Offer other than a few Cool Action Scenes..., Just don't go for a great Story.
The "Large" WereWolf .., was sorta cool, when I think about. ...., but thats just someone trying to desperately to grab onto something .
They didn't try with this Movie. It was Raced...., **** poorly put together , ... I guess that Explains for the Shortness of the Flick.
Awakening Killed The Underworld Franchise ...., Not Even Charles Dance could save the Movie. But who Knows .... Resident Evil has yet Another Film coming out this Year.
... Underworld 2 is still My Fav.

I just bought it on DVD a few days ago (boy that was fast to dvd!)...Anyway, I didn't love it. Granted, it was a different actor playing Michael, but it also felt like they were very actively avoiding his character through the whole movie (even at the end)...So you have to have a new actor portray Michael? Just go with it, don't spend the whole movie running away from that fact.
I agree about the giant lycan being silly.
The movie just seemed like a lot of running around with no real payoff/no real ending.
