Also, remember that with local pick-up there's no way to prove to eBay or Paypal that it's actually been delivered. If the buyer turns out to be a jerk, they can decide a few weeks later that it was "never sent" and file a disupte (we had it happen once).

At the very least, you may want to make sure you get a written receipt for them to sign. Once we emailed the buyer again and reminded them that we had documentation of the sale to send to the local sherriff's department if need be, they suddenly "remembered" their "mistake" and cancelled the dispute. It's not foolproof (and it only happened that one time, so it's not likely it would even come to that), but it does help you to protect yourself.

    Best of luck!

Yeah, they typically won't - but people get stuck in the mindset that eBay/Paypal are the be all and end all of the transaction process, and that as long as they can game that system, they'll be able to pull one over on the seller.

Gently reminding wayward buyers that the fraud protections of the "real-world" still apply even if eBay/Paypal chooses to ignore them sometimes helps nudge them towards doing the right thing. The more documentation you have regarding the transaction, the better. Sometimes taking a check or drivers license information can help later on if things go bad.
