Are Urgent Care's the new big money making THING ?

I never noticed how many Urgent Cares are cropping up in my town.

We have a hospital and it has it's own urgent care.

But, within the last year we got at least 5 more urgent cares (not related to eachother) --- and my town isn't all that big.

Is this happening in all towns ?

Yep. Pretty much everywhere. Urgent care clinics are able to service our fast paced we want it know society where nobody wants to make an appointment and wait. Designed around the concept of more capabilities than your family provider while just short of emergency room care, urgent care clinics fill a necessary gap.

Agreed. Also, it has been my family's experience that urgent cares give better care than our regular docs.

I would guess that depends on the reason for the visit. Family doctors do not have labs, x-ray or really much equipment to do any type of on-the-spot diagnosis for injury, pain, or other immediate relief symptoms. However, for any long-term disease or illness the urgent care doctors will only provide immediate relief and refer you back to the family doctor. Some diagnosis take time to unravel, not unlike a mystery, and in turn are best treated by a physician who is familiar with the family and individual history.

One thing i've noticed is Urgent Care is cheaper than a normal doctor or hospital if youi don't have insurance.

If you dont have insurance Dr's and hospital will rape you of everything you have.

Urgent Cares are expensive, but not as bad as normal doctors

Around here, their big clients are new-hire physicals for businesses and Department of Transportation physicals along with random drug checks. Hubby coordinates all those things for a trucking company and the clinics are the places to go. It takes much too long to get employees into their PCPs for those things.
