Is that Midge Ure doing a Droopy impersonation? What the hell happened to his voice? Have a listen to Jagger singing in Superheavy - there's a good example of a singer who seems to only get better with age.

And musically, while it sounded like Ultravox, it sounded like a (bad) 1984 Ultravox cover band, who haven't experienced the last 30 years of progress. It reminds me A LOT of Kraftwerk in 1980.

    Now I'm bummed out.

Ultravox - Reap The Wild Wind.

    Ah, that's better.

But wait... what's that? 1976 calling? Ultravox and the Bay City Rollers had a love child?! Slik - Forever and Ever. Oh Midge!

Somewhere over the last few years, I turned into an old lady. I seldom listen to music anymore.

This one is for me...One of my favorite Ultravox songs:

BTW, "Brilliant" grows on you. I too wasn't impressed when I first heard it...But it is SOOOOOOO Ultravox. Vocals are a little weak. Holding out hope for the rest of the CD. Hoping they tour here in the US. Midge still has one of the FINEST VOICES in music. Saw him live here on Long Island in a very small venue. Acoustic guitar and that voice. Incredible.

I completely forgot about the Superheavy cd. Huge Joss fan as well as a huge fan of fan of Dave Stewart both as an artist but even more as a producer. I have to find that disc. New Joss should be out later this year.

I actually discover a ton of good stuff just typing keywords into youtube.
Favorite keywords: Stoner, doom, space, metal, tripped out, psych, etc...
Been really getting into strange epic spacey stoner jams lately, however been listening to this a whole heck of a lot:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyv5JDNO3KY
vocals remind me of a young David Gilmour.

Lately, I've been listening to Lana Del Rey's "BORN TO DIE" CD a lot. I know there are folks who love to rag on the lovely Ms. Del Rey, but if you give the whole CD a listen, there really are some gems in there (warning: one song on the CD is definitely NSFW and should be kept away from the kiddies!). Also been listening to the scores from IRON MAN and THOR in the car as a way of audio-prepping myself for THE AVENGERS. I would listen to the CAPTAIN AMERICA score, but I haven't found a copy of it yet cheap enough to buy (I scored IRON MAN, THOR and THE DARK KNIGHT CDs all at the Half Price Bookstore for 3.99 each!).

Oh, and I've been indulging in a bit of melancholy, too, by listening to Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings"....
Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Born To Die is an amazing album. I've got close to 40 songs from Lana Del Rey and she's really good. I think she gets a bad rap because of all the hype that surrounded her. Her performance on SNL didn't help either but it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be. I love Florence & The Machine but they were atrocious on SNL..way worse than Lana Del Rey and for some reason that didn't get any attention. Also no one really ever sounds good on that show for some reason. I've also got most of the Born To Die songs remixed which is what I kind of wish got released. Video Games, Blue Jeans and Summer Time Sadness are great songs on the LP but give it a beat and they go to 11.

Anyway, anyone know Stars...great Springtime Music.

I also heard this song last night in a Land Rover Commercial and had to find out who was singing it. Turns out its Dont Believe by Vashti Bunyan and although I'm pretty up on all kinds of music especially from back in the day, I honestly never heard of her before and was shocked to find out the song is 42 years old. It sounds like something that was just released.

And I just got an email from Metric saying their new song is available on the website so I'll be listening to that for sometime now too. I love Emily Haines!

MP3 at work when spraying or fertilizing, in it currently...REM's last two albums, lots of U2, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin.
