Thread: Cool Weekend Pick up

  1. Cool Weekend Pick up

I picked this up on the weekend, near mint at a garage sale, coolest thing ever, all four cannons fire and light up, goes forward and reverse and the Canons rotate left to right. It is a Japanese Tin toy, I luv it!

So funny you should mention that because I do own a large Godzilla toy, and it was the first place I put it. Thanks for the kind comments, it is a cool looking toy, the only drawback is that it does smell a little like cigarette smoke, oh well

Wipe it down with something that won't harm the finish (such as Simple Green) and then jam some dryer sheets in here and there ... like inside the battery compartment and the chassis, if it's open underneath; that should knock down the odor in a couple of days.

I've gone as far as rinsing stuff in warm water, even tin toys, to remove nicotine stains and odors; if you can heat the piece up afterward (but not so high as to melt anything) and maintain that for a bit, you won't get any rust. I also blow usually electrical contact cleaner through the motors, etc.; again, helps to prevent rust and will also improve performance of many vintage battery-operated pieces where the lubricants have long dried out.

You can get the cleaner at any electronics place like Radio Shack. The other thing that's nice about it is it's not harmful to plastics or rubber as oil or alcohol can be.

Way cool piece ... very TOHO!
