Looks that way. No word from Paramount or universal just secondary sources but it really looks like there heading in the Blu-ray direction. Both formats work great but, already just in my own collection it’s 2 to 1 blu-ray.

Yea I didn't really care which way it went, I just wanted it to end. Soon we will get all movies in High Def with bluray.

At least Microsoft hedged their bets by making the HD Player external. I wouldn't be surprised to see an add on Blu Ray player by next Christmas for the X-Box.

I wasn't surprised at all when I heard the news, as I just finally went format neutral and bought a HD DVD player after Christmas. Just my luck! Oh well, maybe I can pick up some great deals on HD DVDs when many people (and retailers) start trying to dump them cheap. I'm not adverse to having an obsolete player in my home theatre, I still have a laserdisc player hooked up. Still, I'm glad I went with Blu-ray first (PS3) and so most of my high def collection consists of that format.

I'm an idiot about this stuff. Is the regular DVD going to go away? And is a new blue ray player going to play my 1000 or so dvd's??

I think regular DVD's will be here for a long time to come and new players will always be able to play them.
There's just too many people in the world that don't care about HD and BLU--including me

I used to love new technology, but sometimes these days I just feel overwhelmed. Must be getting long in the tooth...

Thunderbolt - the players play old DVDs as well. I have found the upconverstion is fantastic much better than a socalled upconverting dvd player.

This whole format War made Me angry(and You wouldn't like Me when I'm angry)...because they finally got everyone to abandon Thier VHS...then emediately came out with a "TWO" new formats!

I own about a 175 DVD's...so I've been taking a wait and see attitude about the two Formats...and wait for a winner. I'm a Trekie...so I'm waiting to see what Paramount is going to do. If Paramount goes Bluray...I'll buy a PS3($400.). so I'll having another Gaming system, and a Bluray player.
