Ultraman complete series dvd info needed(Ultraman experts please help! )

I did not watch much of Ultraman growing up. My 9 year old son is now into Ultraman thru a friend of his.

My question is where can I get the entire Ultraman series on dvd in english? If it has to be some subtitles, then he will have to deal with it.

I have seen the complete dvd Ultraman dvd om amazon, but says Japanese- wasnt this show dubbed though?

    And what is Ultraman powered?

Anyway- any Ultraman experts? It also does not matter if I buy dvd-r's of this series.

    Thanks!

The original classic Ultraman was dubbed and released in a box set here. It was later made into a cheaper box set, which shows up online for about $10 (and was at Target, etc) and it features both the dubbed episodes and the episodes with subtitles.

Quick note, on that DVD, you'll notice that sometimes even in the "dubbed" episodes, it'll switch to a scene or two that's subtitled. That's because these scenes have been restored to the original episodes and since they were cut back in the 60's, no dubbing was done for them. Nothing is wrong with the discs, it's supposed to do that.

There are only two other "American" Ultraman shows. Ultraman Great (Known as Toward the Future in the US) but it doesn't have a DVD release. It shows up online sometimes though for download and I think Netflix had it for a bit.

    The other is Ultraman powered.

Likewise, you can find some DVDs of Ultraman Tiga and Dyna, they had a brief run here in the US where they were dubbed. I think only a few DVDs were released, though, not the whole series.

Ultra 7 was dubbed in the 60's, but it doesn't have a DVD release. But you should be able to find the episodes online. TNT used to run them back in the late 90's in the early morning still. Ultra Seven is a great show.

Some of the more modern Ultraman shows have been subtitled by fans (and sometimes officially) but they haven't been "officially released" in the United States.

The current Ultraman is actually Ultraman Zero. He's had a few movies, but no show. The movies can be bought online, but I'm not sure which ones have official subtitles. Again, best to track them down online.

If you want more Ultraman, your best bet is the net. However I always advise people to email Tsuburaya and let them know you want Ultraman DVDs released in the US. You'll get a canned response, but maybe, just maybe someday that'll prompt them to release more Ultraman in the states. This is their website: M-78

If he's digging Ultraman, you should also show him some Red Baron (Mach Baron). Very similar in style, but it's giant robot vs giant robot. The DVD boxset is cheap too.
