John Carter arrives on DVD June 5th!

I rented J.C. from the Redbox tonight and went in with a totally open mind. A few of you on here even got me psyched for this film too. What I was hoping to get was an awesome Sci-Fi flick that flew under the radar and because of bad advertising flopped. That didn't happen. There's a reason this movie bombed. I can describe this movie in one word...Unwatchable. From the ridiculous dialogue to the atrocious acting to incredibly dumb story, it's amazing this POS ever got made in the first place. I wondered a few times during the movie if the actors and all involved looked at each other and knew they were in a god-awful film. As far as terrible Sci-Fi goes, this was as bad for me as Dune or the 1980's Flash Gordon movie was and quite possibly the worst movie I've seen since The Spirit.

Despite one of the most bland DVD covers of all time, I think I'm curious enough to check it out. I had a complete set of John Carter books as a kid, but never got around to reading those. I looked at the covers and thought they were interesting but then got into the Conan novels and never made it back.

I think that review was kind'a harsh. I enjoyed the film thoroughly and found it be all around, just plain fun. So sorry you didn't enjoy it as much many other people did. I was pretty much into the story when he arrived on Mars. I'm only just reading the original ERB books now.

Having taken johnmiic's advice and watching the film on DVD I gotta say I really enjoyed it. For me it was a very satisfying sci-fi movie experience. I can see where some would have issues with some of the dialog but for me all of the elements melded into a perfect translation from a pulp page to the 21st Century silver screen. The effects in my opinion were seamless in the interweaving of human actors and CGI creatures. I can honestly say that for the majority of the movie I got so got up in the interactions that I really forgot that the creatures and scenes were not really occupying 3D space. Also the ending was great! I didn't see it coming and for little ole Mr.Cynical Me that's saying a lot.
