Thread: Smallville digi-comic. No trunks. $#%@ DC

Angry Smallville digi-comic. No trunks. $#%@ DC

Seriously, couldn't they have left Smallville alone? There's a new continuity in the DC Universe right? so why not let Smallville's Superman look like Superman should? I bought the digital issue for the wife and I gotta tell you this is just wrong. Mattel canceling the toys was a sign DC. I was annoyed before but I am really annoyed with the lot of bung holes even more so now.

You know how people who liked Smallville got mad when those that didn't bashed it all the time, then there was this rule about not bashing Smallville which I think most people adhered to out of the respect for those that did?

At what point do we make a rule about not bashing DC? There are those of us who like the New 52. I can understand that people don't like what DC's doing. I really do. I even respect it and the choice to not continue buying their comics. Just like I'm sure people respected my right to not like Smallville and my choice to just not watch it.

But then of course if we made a rule about not bashing DC, then this thread would fall in to some kind of space/time ending grey area because it's a thread about Smallville AND hating DC.

So in the end, I have no idea what I'm trying to say here.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry the comic didn't live up to what you were hoping it to be.

It's not that I had particular expectations however I assumed that (I know my bad) that they would leave the look alone, sine the TV show had no place in the comic universe. I'm not hating on DC so much as I'm simply really not happy with what they are doing and in so they are taking away from what I would have gladly purchased.

At least there is some yellow in the belt. It looks pretty good. I don't care for the Jim Lee design myself. Too much blue and red. Had they left the belt yellow, he'd look more balanced. This is nice.

I sometimes feel like such an outsider here when it comes to how I see comics. I read a lot of "new stuff is crap" and I can't bring myself to always agree with that.

    I occasionally agree.

When it comes to comics, I'm clearly not on the same page as everyone else. I'm not saying that's good or bad. Just different. Maybe I'm somehow influenced by the fact that I like to draw them. I really don't know.

We don't agree on the direction comics are taking and that's cool. I'm glad it can be civil with perhaps some revealing discussion on the matter.

I can agree that the new Superman suit is mostly garbage. Not as bad as Electric Superman, but not as good as 1986 Man of Steel.

I don't understand the Commando and Barbie Boots thing. Not even a little. Is it a comment on the costume or is there something more there I'm missing?

I guess people who like the new 52 should avoid threads like these. Based on the title it's obvious there will be no love for the new costume here. Like the Smallville fans here did in the past, you will probably have to start your own Pro-52 threads, put a disclaimer at the start of the thread letting everyone know no opposing viewpoints will be tolerated in the thread and ask for the Mods help in keeping nay-sayers out. I think there's room for everyone here at the Mego Museum.

Smallville, like the new 52, like DC comics on the whole, is overturning 70-80 years of continuity. A lot of people are not convinced it's even necessary. It's a betrayal of loyal readership of epic proportions. That is an uphill battle like climbing Mt. Everest.

Not to mention it also seems like a thinly veiled plot to make a buck off readers. Everyone knows #1 issues always sell more. If the new 52 fails they can come out with all new #1 issues for everything with yet another continuity, all over again. There's nothing to say the new 52 won't be flushed down the toilet like New Coke in the 1980's. Just my 2¢.

Message understood. I'll bow out. And you're right, I should avoid said threads. I wasn't trying to cause trouble. I wont likely start any pro 52 thread. I just see so much negative all the time.
