    Human Centipede 2

There are sometimes when a movie is so gruesome, disgusting, disturbing and vile that it actually bellyflops into being a high camp comedy. Human Centipede 2 achieves that conversion in spades.

It follows the adventures of a sicko that looks like Peter Lorre beaten with an ugly stick. He takes on a facination with the first Human Centipede movie and gets the idea he wants to make his own...

    and then the fun begins.

      Ha! That's a pretty spot-on review, man!

I think the movie was meant to be grotesquely funny. The Peter Lorre guy being a magnet for pedophiles was so wrong and so funny to me. I hope nobody judges me too harshly on here, but I can't say I didn't have fun watching it. Mind you - it's not on my "must re-watch" list or anything.

I thought the first one was actually a straight-forward update of the classic mad scientist genre. If the first one makes you squeamish DON'T see the second one.

I thought it was pretty funny, and I'm not much of a horror fan these days.

Because you're not crazy about the newer crop of movies - or because of your mood?

My 15 year old daughter (like most teenagers) likes horror flicks. i liked them at the same age but really don't enjoy them unless there is a clever plot. She asked me if she could watch the first movie and gave me an overview of the plot. I told her that I really didn't think it was appropriate but if she wanted to watch it...that would be her decision. My kids don't really get scared or react to gruesome type images. I have only seen bits and parts (no pun intended) of the Saw movies....my daughter watched them and was completely unphased by them.

I think kids, more than ever are aware of the tricks used to make gore in movies and it makes gore less shocking.

I agree but I have this rubbernecker urge in me so I don't usually end up watching the whole movie but skimming through it (which on Netflix is interesting because to skim through a stream movie you go through a bunch of still frames)

wow, hard question to answer really. I guess both to be honest.
I used to collect tons of horror (slasher type mostly), but gave everything away several years back as I just found that I was becoming an increasingly negative person. Never fully able to relax or be happy.
Now, I'm not blaming this on watching horror movies, although I also wouldn't suggest that coming home from a crappy day at work and watching people get chain-sawed to death helped either.
I just decided that such nihilism no longer had a much of a place in my life. I still like some of the horror movies I grew up on (Friday the 13th: part 4, Original TXCSM, Nightmare on elm st. 1), and I've liked some of the newer stuff too (Saw 1 and 2 were well done, Even Hostal I don't have a problem with). I guess the thing is, is that I don't want to watch them over and over again.

As a side note I don't consider monster movies to be part of the horror genre in general. Also, been more into Disney/Pixar stuff last few years and been a much more positive person.

It's a quandry for me because I have become turned off by the nihilism but I enjoy the special effects. I used to get Fangoria and much more enjoyed looking at the pictures of the effects than sitting through the movie.

I'm turned off by the nihilism but I still liked to be scared. So whereas movies like Saw 2 and Hostal could be held up as the modern standards of "gore/torture porn" I actually liked them because they made me feel so uneasy while watching them. They were effective movies, well written, original and most importantly scary. However the sequals were all garbage with very little,if anything, to offer (IMHO). As a side note I think 127 hours was the only other movie in recent memory to make me feel so squeemish, and it wasn't a horror film (although him sawing off his hand with a dull knife was certainly gory), and it had a positive uplifting ending (a true story to boot).
