Thread: Looks like the Thundercats didn't make it...

The demand for classic Thundercats is still very strong so hopefully another company well pick up the license. I'd love Hasbro to do classic Thundercats in 3 3/4 inch scale.

I, personally, think the new show deviated far too much from the source material. The show started fairly strong but quickly became just another generic anime with the characters barely resembling the originals in looks or personality. Even in the spikey haired, Skeletor hopping around like a hyper jack rabbit, anime heavy influenced 2002 MOTU reboot the characters personalities were at least more or less the same.

I enjoyed the new show, but couldn't easily find more than a couple of episodes. The toys were nice, but not in my collecting interests. The giant 'lion armor' thing made me think of Biotron for Thundercats... if it was a more interesting color than just gold.

Maybe I'll buy a couple of things on clearance.

I just hope the people behind the new Thundercats cartoon never gets a chance to reboot Masters of the Univerese. I can just hear their ideas in my head...

"I know! Let's change Prince Adam and Man-at-Arms to half brothers and let's make Duncan a petty, insecure dick. Eternia is now only the name of the capital and not the name of planet. Oh! and no Castle Grayskull. They are now just going to wander around aimlessly fugitive style for the entire series and rarely run into Skeletor. The main villian they come in contact with the most will be Merman."

When I said I thought the cartoon was well done, I should have mentioned I caught a total of one episode. (The one where they flashed back to Ruin? & Panthro as friends long ago and became enemies later on) The MOTU cartoon from 2002 was an awesome reboot that I was really disappointed to see get canceled. Great back stories to the characters and the past, making Prince Adam a ******, having Cringer not talk, Mek-A_Neck struggling wiht having a lame power were all welcome changes to the Filmation run. I do also love the Filmation cartoon though but I'm just saying it was nice to see MOTU have a coherent story instead of just random episodes.

With the Thundercats line, I agree that the conflicting size hurt sales and the way they were priced didn't help either. If you remember when they first came out, there was an 8" version of them figures too which later got dropped for the 6". I wish they had one a retro line of these guys that looked like the figures did back in the day. BTW the "clearance" prices weren't exactly a deal either. The $19.99 figures were reduced to $14.99 Give it a few months and they'll probably end up at Five Below, where toy lines go to die.

It be cool if Matty Collectibles started producing the Thundercats figures to coincide with the Classic MOTU figures they sell. I think having both in the same scale has been on the wish list for a lot of collectors for the longest time now.

  5. Kinda sadden by it if the toys are cancelled.
The smaller scale Lion-O and especally Mum-Ra are pretty darn cool.
These days smaller scale is definately the way to go when doing retail.

Yeah, I got the 8" Lion-O and thought he was great. I only saw him and Tygra, but I would have grabbed a Panthro in a second if they had released one. I'm not even much of a fan and I thought it was a really cool figure.

I didn't really like a lot of the changes which the new cartoon made to the classic Thundercats mythos, but I still watched it and acknowledged that it was a well done show.

I picked up a few of the 3.75 inch scale Bandai figures, because that's my favourite size for action figures.... and I always wanted Thundercats at that scale.

3.75 inch Panthro was pretty hard to find at retail... he was probably short packed.
