Depp usually doesn't disappoint so I'll give it a shot. It'd be hard to top Clayton Moore's stoic portrayal so I can see them changing it up a bit...

A tiny clip from The Social Network:

Armie Hammer is an imposing figure...about 6' 4"-6' 5"...with chiseled features and a deep voice.

Johnny Depp will definitely be the much smaller dude, lol.

Hammer will also be playing the prince in the new upcoming Snow White movie...

Besides the aforementioned "I like Depp" posts that I agree with...
I ALSO find it so dang cool that THE LONE RANGER is being revived
in this grand manner... I really, really can't wait... and I really, really
    hope it's successful.

I kinda took the picture to be a sort of funeral scene, maybe at his brother's grave. He is wearing the Texas Ranger badge in it. Hence everyone in black dress.
I'd also assume wearing a crow on your head would be a disadvantage in sneaking up on someone or hiding behind a rock in a gunfight.

Call me easily impressed, but if you are right, that's a great deduction.

Your points about it seem to add up to just what you're theorizing.

The funeral suggestion is a good one. I don't see why the Ranger can't have several sets of clothes, including the blue on blue look, Moore made famous.

I'm all for a more accurate depiction of Native Americans. However, I hope we don't get the Doctor Doolittle take that was so popular when I was a kid.

Lone Ranger has a bit of a dandy going on.

Could be worse. He could be cleverly disguised as a Hershey's Kiss.

Uh, I'm afraid for this movie. Seriously.

Wait! Armie Hammer? His parents just went with Arm and Hammer? Big baking soda fans, were they?
