    MEGO's Found in the WILD???!!!

I was told years ago By DaveMC and Palitoy. During the first MM I attended. That stories of Mego Discoverys should be shared in order to give other hope that they too might get lucky and find a Mego bit to add to thier collection. So I thought I'd try this thread and see if others can add to it.

Mine just happened yesterday (2-12-12). I ran over to our local (Sell by the pound) Goodwill. I didnt think I'd be finding much as it looked pretty picked over and the crowd was pretty big. In one of the bin's of junk. I noticed a mix of old Barbie furniture and bits. When I began to sort threw it, I found a purple jumpsuit. Quickly I recognised it as a Dina Mite suit. I began to sort deeper through the mix of doll items. After an extended search of that bin and the Nieghboring ones. I realized either someone had found Dina before me or she was never there to begin with. My detailed search had gained attention though and the regular Vultures soon where flocking nearby to see what gained my attention. Later I checked the suit and found the little Mego tag stitched into the seemwork. Although the doll was Nowhere to be seen. It was cool as hecks to find something Mego related once again. I hope others have stories to share and better ones at that.

    Yes!

I have rarely ever found a Mego in the wild....affordable.

My only two in the past few years are TWO Mego Spocks WITH accessories, each for $5! wut?!

Value Village (like Goodwill) only puts their toys in lots in bags on the wall. apparently they don't like little kids being babysat in the kid aisle and strewing toys all over the store, but the bagged items are priced WAY to high and you usually don't want the other stuff in them. And older toys are kept up in the glass counter priced high.
Well, apparently they had a new employee who didn't know their stuff, because I found a Mego Spock & trashed Kirk accessories for $5! I looked through all the other bags (took a long time), but that was the only one. I had to resell it at the time for bills, which made me sad. [:(

Then, in a corner of our town, was this amazing series of Estate sales. Apparently an older musician passed away, and he was an INCREDIBLE collectible hoarder. His younger musician band mates sold his stuff at a series of non-professional estate sales, and things were so incredibly cheap. They had no clue about the stuff (and they were really nice). I found some awesome things, but the best was....a Mego Spock with accessories for $5 !! And he's in really, really good shape. Not a repo either. Those sales are all done, and I've never seen the like since.
And THIS Spock will never ever leave my sticky fingers.

So too long uninteresting stories I could have summed up in two sentences.

...oh, I did find a cheap China knock-off Mego NINJA missing a hand for $.10 cents at a rummage sale. He will be used in some nice dismembering photos...

At the flea market I have found in the past year:
Batman, Robin, Captain Marvel, Mxy (all in pieces and passed on them. wish i hadnt.)

Also on other occasions I have found (and bought):
    Captain Marvel
    2 Gorns
    All for six bucks.
Its a rare thing, indeed, Im always suprised when I come across them.

Also I have came across SMDM on a few occasions. One was complete (and expensive) and the next time he was in pieces but had his clothing. I should have gotten him but forgot when I went to leave...

Most of mine were obtained locally. Batman, Robin and Spider-Man seem very common. Found lots of them or at least pieces of them.

I think the only actual Mego I've found in the wild was Mr. Mxyzptlk at an antique mall, back in the late 90s. Grabbed him, and he was the first I got as an adult collector. Soon after, eBay really started taking off, and that changed everything.

I seldom go to flea markets here in PR,...but passed by one a few years ago in the summer,..and felt this urge to go in and see what might be there,..so i passed by a few sellers until i saw this guy with a huge discarded cardboard box from a stove,..and peaking out from it was a boxed 18" Talking Beetlejuice...amazed i got closer, looked inside and for my astonishment,..there they were all in MIB glory; 2-18" Beetlejuice Talkers, 5-12" Mego Spiderman's, 4-12" Mego Superman's, 1-12" Capt. America, 4-12" Buck Rogers, (one I gave to Boywonder0), 2-12" Fembots, 2-12" Bionic Womans, 1-12" Oscar Goldman 2-Captain Action/Steve Canyon outfits and 1-Ideal 12" Wonder Woman Super Queen...each at only....drum roll........5.00 each!!!!! And all were neatly placed,..not crushed or anything, just a bit shelf worn. I almost got a heart attack,..but kept my cool,..told the guy i wanted it ALL,...and he got all excited and jumpy about it (but not more than me). Said it was all from his fathers store-out of business. I left there like it was Christmas morning!!! (and 120.00 less in my pocket....)

.....So never give up hope in finding treasures like these....of course i only kept one or two of each and gave/traded the rest....so just keep looking!

I was at a flea market last weekend where a guy was selling a MIP Starsky & Hutch for only $300..... (whatever).

He also had a Mork & Mindy MIB for $250.

Surprisingly, he didn't accept debit or mastercard and I don't usually carry $200 to a flea market.

    Yikes!
