I used to have a subscription to it. When I moved I had to throw them all away. The only thing I got from the classified was a SMDM Christmas story album. Fun stuff! I remember I could see my building from the bus stop down the street and when the mailman dropped it off, I came rushing back up the hill to check it out!

Oh wait...maybe it was Toy Talk? Does someone have a pic of the cover?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Those were great days. But I do appreciate what the internet can do now. It's nice to be able to see new figures for free without having some store clerk bug you for reading a magazine if your not going to buy it. But there are plenty of great memories from those days.
It's not how hard you hit, but how hard you can be hit and still move forward.

  3. I subscribed to toyshop for many years. It was great. Don't really miss the non-transparency auctions, but I tried to avoid those if at all possible. Most importantly I met some great people through toyshop. I miss that, having guys from literally around the world call and say, "Guess what I got!", and working out a deal, or just talking toys for a while. The internet is great but those days seemed more personal.

I've told this story before but I'll tell it again because it's funny. There was a seller who had an ad in Toyshop with Megos and Star Wars listed for really cheap prices. I called to see if he had any of the Star Wars stuff left and I get "Sorry, the Megos are all gone." Then he hung up. No idea what had happened with the Star Wars stuff.

Loved Toy Shop and the Comics Buyer's Guide, both. It was always great to come home for lunch or after work and find one or the other in the mailbox.

Certainly, getting news on the Internet is quicker and of course ebay, for all its ills, makes collecting anything and everything easier, but there was something about that anticipation that's not really there anymore.

I got quite a few Megos from ToyShop ads. I still have a stack of them in storage.

I recall being in utter awe at what had to have been the very first custom figure I had ever seen in packaging. It was a vintage Star Wars custom but I cannot remember the character. I actually called asking about it. Not long after that I "tried" to make my first custom that failed horribly.

Anyone remember "New eye Studio"? They used to always have a big spread in Toyshop and sold a lot of vintage Star Wars and Star trek. I bought a carded Klingon and Kirk from those guys.

I really liked toyshop because of all the pics. I wish I would have kept them.

Picked these up over the weekend at a tag sale. They're from '96 and '97 which was right near the end of my subscription era. Super fun to flip through. Was hoping to catch one of my ads but nowhere to be seen...
