I think it's a prototype. I'd say a factory sample/test for matching the new Lizard parts to see if they fit the existing pieces properly. And a hand painted face with test detail makes me ure there are no others. I've been trying to find promo pictures of the Lizard, but am only finding the drawn pictures from the ads.

I just got an email response from the seller of the auction, who was selling it for somebody else. So he gave me an email address and I sent another email. He told me the guy he sold it for is "quite an expert" with the Mego figures. So we'll see what he remembers about the figure...Comment

I got a response and it seems it came from Eastern Canada in the nineties. He said his mom bought it at either a flea market or value village. Reminds me of the GAH flea market find...
So I guess that's all the history I'll be able to get on the Lizard. I speculate it came from a Mego employee, from the New York office. Probably given to a relative, who later just dumped it with their other old toys. I think it was a prototype sent for approval to New York. Partial scales drawn in to see if it was worth detailing.Comment

Is there any chance at all that it could have been faked/created or made up by someone?
I don't want to rain on your parade here or anything. I am actually quite happy for you if it is indeed legit. Too bad you cannot get more accurate/detailed info on it. At least it is a start though. You never know though maybe a new lead will turn up some day. Best wishes!Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009
Too much space. Need more toys!

^^^It isn't an after market change. The rivets couldn't have been removed and replaced without making some damage. It is clearly the original rivets. Everything about it is unique, except the torso and pelvis. When the rivets are inserted, it causes the parts to get impressions where the edges are. It is not made with twice used parts, or there would be evidence. Next time we "mini Mego meet" around Portland, I'll bring it so others can examine and confirm the rivet holes are not tampered with.Comment

It may have been a salesman sample which is a post prototype, early production
piece. Output from the tooling assembled using an existing body.
That is where MEGO management like Marty and Neal would have made tweaks
to the paint app and the clothing - which would explain the lines "inked" in.
They probably told the factory not to bother with that detailing in production.Comment

I've seen Lonnie's lizard figure and its spectacular. There is no way that its a fake.Comment

I wonder if this figure ever had any clothes? I'd love to see a picture of prototype Lizard and Green Goblin figures. We got a lot of prototypes shown in promo pictures and advertisements. I think the ads for the wave he was in were all drawings, and no photographs.Comment

Canada? MIGHT imply a Parkdale Novelty connection? Although the right coast is pretty far away from Toronto.
Parkdale was previously known to have had a few samples/prototypes of various figures right?Comment
