Question The most you have been mislead.

    Hello every one,

I started this thread because I am curious to see what the worst example is of some one on eBay (or maybe even amazon or some thing else) where the seller has a description of the item like this:
"Mego Batman, mint, complete, all original, buyer pays shipping etc". You buy the item thinking "yes, batman, my favorite!". Only to receive a Batman this is missing his gloves and the rest is clearly repro or home made parts.

I bring this up because my sister bought me a Lt Uhura for christmas. The item description said "mint and original" but when I unwrapped it I noticed some thing pretty much immediately. The pants on Uhura were not original, they were black, not brown, and worst yet, they were home made, and pretty poorly at that (they don't fit and the elastic is all coming off). So now I am stuck with a Uhura with out her original pants (any one has a spare pair PM me so we can cut a deal).
So has any one else had this happen to them? Maybe you bought a carded mego and recieved it to see that it was resealed with duct tape?
Or maybe you just didnt see the Font Size 1 writing at the bottom of the auction that said "reproduction".

I was mislead on a Mego auction a few years ago.
The seller was notorious for this and was-is in the South Penn area.
Not sure if they're still in business...
I mostly blame myself for biting on an auction that was too good to be true and I should have known better at that point.

    The only upside....
It was a piddly auction that didn't cost me much to find out I bought a pile of crap.

The worst I have been misled was on eBay, and to top it off it was by a part time Mego Museum member.

I won a MOC 75' Mr Fantastic. You could tell in the pic it was kinda beat up but when I got it it was CLEARLY resealed, which there was no mention of in the description.

I contacted the seller and he basically said there was no way it was resealed and that I didn't know what I was talking about.

    The famous "atronempire" incident.

This was not an ebay auction, this was an in-house Marketplace forum sale.

The atronempire incident was this newbie with Megos priced that were just too good to be true. I'm talking something like a mint loose Wonder Girl for about $100 or something like that.

I placed $300 worth of orders...and I was stupid enough to send him money.

Other Museum Member did the same thing.

Well, guess what, it did turn out too good to be true.

Needthless to say, antronempire turned out to be this young spoiled rich kid (through some detective work, members here found out where he lived, it was practically a mansion in a very exclusive neighborhood) who didn't own any Megos and had practically stolen our money.

Appearantly, he had been doing this routine on other toy forums too, not just Megos.

But again, thanks to great savy members, they located the young thief, informed his parents, and by some miracle, we all got our money back from them.

I hope they beat their lad into a bloody pulp (I think he was like 17 years old or something).

Thanks to that experience, I don't ever deal with newbies in the Marketplace forum until I see them very active on the other forums and establish themselves that way. That's why I get very distrustful with these one post newbies suddenly popping in all the time, no introductions, and no pictures of what they are selling (no prices as well).

thank god that you got your money back Hector, I see you all the time hassling people on the forum when they try to sell a heap of stuff as their first post. I understand where you are coming from, it is really hard to trust some one who has one post, it is even worse when they have no pictures, how are we to know they are making it up or not?
I have been ripped by the infamous Chip Cataldo. I hate this guy heaps, I think his user name was Marillion, he took my $150 for a Hulk Rage Cage then suddenly stopped coming to the museum and never replied to my PM's. I tried complaining to paypal but couldnt get my money back.
Marillion had 35 posts when I bought of him, so even then it is hard to trust people. My trust in people goes up when they have over 100 posts because that shows that they are willing to sit here and get to know people.

    Amen brother, amen.

Not only one posts newbies, but I also got ripped off my shemale Batmaster.

Batmaster was this veteran poster, but he/she went out with a bang.

I was scheduled to have my sixth surgery (long story) as I was selling a bunch of stuff through the Marketplace...I had ongoing transactions with a dozen members, and one of them was Batmaster.

Well, since all were veterans, I went ahead and mailed all the items to all...didn't even wait for payment.

I sent Batmaster a loose Jokermobile, a boxed Enterprise bridge set, and a loose mint Superman.

When I came back from the hospital, all the members had paid me through paypal, and all the boxes where received by them...all except for Batmaster...he/she sent me a PM telling me he needed more time to pay.

Batmaster disappeared from the face of the earth, never to return (and he/she stiffed other members as well).

I just hope his/her sex-change surgery didn't go as planned.
