Thread: My first sculpt attempt

    My first sculpt attempt

I've been looking for a head for a custom Green Arrow I am working on. Of course, I started with everything else before locking down a head (which is not quite that easy to find). I decided to attempt my first sculpt. My wife seems to think he looks more like Colonel Sanders than Green Arrow...but she likes chicken more than superheros!!

Congratulations on your first attempt!! I think when he's painted he wouldn't look so much like Colonel Sanders.

    Neat!

That's actually quite good! You'll find that a lot of time the difference between a decent sculpt and an awesome one is a tiny little change. If you're not happy with this one, the only suggestions I might make are:

    -smaller, more angular nose
-expand the jaw a bit: slightly longer and more squared off to the cheekbones.

Those'd give it more of a Adams kinda look.

Fast food and superheroes aside… I'd be interested to know what materials and tools you are using.

You've taken your first step into a larger world. Great start!!! Keep plugging away.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

Thanks for the compliments and encouragement. Artskull..I used Supersculpy and a basic set of miniature sculpting tools obtained at Michaels. Honestly, I used a toothpick and sewing needle for much of the detailing.

Dave… thanks for letting me know what materials and tools you used. It's great to see in progress pix combined with knowledge of how/what was used.

  9. Hey that looks very nice for a first sculpt. if I can make a suggestion try to get some of the sculpty firm grey or add a little color with sculpty 3 you can see things better(like toolmarks and fingerprints) when its not translucent (and the pin
    k stuff is very translucent)

also I dont know if you did this, but brushing a little turpinoid on the sculpt with some fine brushes really smooths things out I do think you did a very good job on your first piece now keep doing more!! Batjimi

    I like it!
Keep your refernce images handy as you finish it up.
Look at the reference more than you do your sculpt. ( a Drawing Teacher once taught me that)
Befre I read it was GA I thought the goatee was someone with thier tounge sticking out
