That's a great movie. I may have recorded it, but I can't remember.

"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
On this same note --- does anyone remember the 80's movie that ripped off The Car called Wheels of Terror ?
.................................................. .......................
if any of you have the Car recorded off of regular network television please get in touch. Tv edition had extra footage that was allegedly lost in the Universal fire from a few years back
"What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hells Angels is currently unclear,"
^The Universal backlot fire of '08 affected the Video Vault, not the film vault. Only digital copies were destroyed so all original footage is off site and archived. Nothing was lost other than copies that can be re-created from the masters.
I've heard rumors of there being a "R" version of the movie and is slightly longer (Over two hours). Nothing has ever been validated or surfaced other than hearsay. The only different versions that exist thus far are Anchor Bay version and Universal Version. Both exact same run times, the Universal being cleaner since it was mastered from the master but the audio is different.
AB is mixed to 5.1 surround while Universal is Digital Dolby 2.0 stereo. Also it appears some audio (SPFX & dialog) is missing from the Universal version but intact on the AB version.
Hence why the AB DVD commands more.
actually it has been verified for years that the tv version of the film has some extra footage not found elsewhere. Supposedly that footage was lost in the fire (or actually perhaps, just lost). my understanding of it was that before the universal dvd came out, they did try to find that footage to include with it. Either way it used to air all the time but I never recorded it.

The Car (1977) - Alternate versions
also a shot of the sheriff actually being able to look into the car (the car opened its driver door to show no one was in it) was also part of the extra footage in the tv version

I can remember a few rips and similar films.... not always by title.... but do you mean this one?:
Wheels of Terror (TV 1990) - IMDb
>also a shot of the sheriff actually being able to look into the car
Yeah! I remember that from when I saw it on tv as a kid, but not any time I saw it after.

Great movie. The Car is still a favourite of mine.
Looking for loose MEGO COMIC ACTION HEROES
Interesting that it wasn't included as bonus footage on either release. Let alone surface underground from collectors since it's been pirated and booted over the years from underground video sellers.
It is likely there are extra footage but not enough to constitute a R version or over 2 hours.
As to whereabouts of said edited television version it would likely be in the vaults of ABC. Surprised no one went to seek it out.
Seems like Universal isn't investing much effort into this movie unless someone decides to create a remake and release a blu-ray version of the original with the bonus footage and proper audio track.
I also recall that scene of the sheriff looking into the car and seeing it empty.
I love this old movie. I'm still kicking myself for missing a diecast 1:18 scale model I saw years ago.
