    Creepy Classics "Phantom" cancelled

    Hey guys,
Jason and I have decided not to produce the "Phantom" figure we announced at Mego Meet. The prototype shown, like our other Creepy Classics, was meant to be an homage to 60's/70's monster knock-offs in the vein of AHI and Lincoln (see purple face and yellow eyes). Others, in the business thought the sculpt is too close to the Universal property and were upset. So rather than create controversy, and out of respect for legitimate licenses we have decided not to produce the figure.

We know folks will be disappointed, and we are sorry for that.

Just put a Lee Falk Phantom head on the Phantom of the Opera body. Problem solved.

Seriously, these mash-up figures seem to be popular now. We've already got presidential monsters, so why not a Phantom/Phantom?

Completely understandable, but still dssappointing. We'll just have to wait and see what other monster goodness you guys have in store for us.

Any chance of just doing a new head mold? That purple and yellow made me happy inside: )

I understand the reason why, but I can't help being somewhat disappointed

Saw someone say it on your facebook and I agree, use those tuxs to make Mandrake the Magician!

And as for Phantoms, there's always that other one...

There is always the Lincoln approach.

A headsculpt that departs from Universal's Chaney look.

Bummer...I think it was a great idea. And who would have ever thought someone would complain? It's not like you see this character lining the shelves of toy stores. Sheeesh! But I certainly understand the reasoning to cancel. In this industry you need to work hard to build allies.

                          I agree; it's a great sculpt.

Maybe CAW could do a scarred-style Opera Ghost, instead of a Chaneyesque version?

does this mean someone in the business is planning a legit Chaney Phantom?

We don't have any inside knowledge about what other companies are working on. we took a hard look at the character and felt it was a little to close for comfort. We've got plenty of other monsters we can work on.
