Question Any one here collect Movie Posters?

    Hello everyone,

My lust for movie related item's, toy's, press kit's, memorabilia, often still goes unsatisfied if I don't own the original theater poster of my favorite movies. Currently the only real ones I have in my collection are Sgt Kabukiman (signed by director and producer), Class of Nuke'em High, Mortal Kombat (signed by 3 main characters) and 48 Hours.
Half of the reason I love movie posters so much is the art work. New movies are just a lame screen-shot of the film with some cheap looking photoshop work, whereas the classic movie's from the 70's, 80's, very early 90's have detailed hand painted pictures, which are often beautiful collages of scenes from the movie. Every one should know what I am talking about, like the awesome art work we would all see on the cover's of VHS (remember, a VHS, it's a cassette, that plays moving pictures, lol, bad joke) cassette covers at the video store.

Does any one else have the same obsession for collecting theater posters, signed or unsigned, or perhaps just press kit's (I have Troma press kit's framed on the wall)?

I used to collect a few... not many.
    Mostly 14x36 inserts.
I've been slowly selling them off.

    I think I only have 2 left.

I have 4 poster frames and I cahnge the posters ever 6 months or so. I just put the new ones over the old ones so I have a stack in each frame. I pick them up off of e-bay.

I love movie posters new and old.

I have an original Empire Strikes Back poster that is folded (probably the only one of any value from my small collection). I haven't been able to find an inexpensive frame for it yet. The size is too big to fit in the movie poster frames that you can purchase off the shelf.

I have the teaser posters to all three Star Wars prequels, the teaser Planet of the Apes Tim Burton remake, the first two Harry Potter teasers, and the Lord of the Rings movie poster (the one that is double sided and the ring is really bright on the reverse side so it would really stand out behind a lighted frame). I also have a promotional poster that was advertised in a magazine (I can't remember which one) for Revenge of the Jedi before they changed the name. I don't know if it is worth anything but it is a nice conversation piece since most people don't know that the name was changed unless you are a big follower of Star Wars.

I also have one Broadway poster which is the original Wicked with the original cast. I imagine that might be worth a little money too.

They are all nice pieces of art and I have to do the same thing of switching them out every so often since they are large and take up a lot of wall space.

One of my favourite movie posters has always been Damnation Alley.

A really cool poster that's still very cheap to buy.

I have a few and I'd love to collect more if I actually had space to display them all. My favourite one is one that is impossible to display at my house: a 5 foot wide by 8 foot tall vinyl theatrical banner for KILL BILL that I got from a seller in Thailand. I have absolutely no where I could possibly hang something that big and now I think "Why the hell did I buy that?" The shipping price was insane too.

But I love movies, so I collect a lot of different memorbilia too. Things I collect that are much easier to display are chirashi: theatrical flyers from Japan that are like mini movie posters, they look great framed, and Japanese movie programs (when you go see virtually any movie in Japan, you can buy a program of the movie in the theatre lobby, filled with photos, interviews, etc. I really wish we had those here).

i have many of the star wars movies and if course anything I collect. BG , Clash of the titans etc. I have maybe a couple of hundred but have slacked of because they are just rolled up.
My favorite ones are my Revenge of the Jedi ones ( signed by several cast members) , Batman : mask of the Phantasm signed by Bob Kane, Apoclyspe Now poster signed by Duvall ( with the inscription I love the smell of ...) and the World Trade Ceter Spider Man poster that got me yanked from EBAY back in 2001/2002.

my all time favorite ones are the Charlie Brown ones that are just great large posters. I have to buy any of the animation ones.

oddly enough I recently sold several X-Rated Movie posters on ebay for some good money after finding them at a Antique store for 2.00 each. they don't surface to much around here and are touch and go on ebay.

I have a few up in my basement. I usually only have reprints. I do have an original Raiders of the Lost Ark half sheet and a One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest original poster. For more modern stuff, I have a Pulp Fiction and Hedwig and the Angry Inch up. I just love both those posters. Otherwise, I have reprints of most older movie posters and lobby cards. I noyl have my favorite movies up. I got rid of a lot of extra posters a few years back.
