A Toy I'm Happy Just To See Again

I won't be buying one of these any time soon, but my my Huffy Pro Thunder bike I got in 1976 was a HUGE part of my Mego days. I remember thinking of all the places I'd go when my ma bought me one of these. I've searched several times before, but was never able to find a picture of the model I had (this one turned up the 70'schild blog). I remember the recatangular seat that I'd never seen before, the cool plastic BMX-ish sign (I was a sucker for anything with a number on it) and the black metallic paint that reflected tiny bits of color.

I was just so warmed to see one again, even if it was just a picture. Do you remember you first big boy bike?

Ross Apollo Green. This pic is virtually the same bike I had as a kid. The sticker on the side of this one is wrong; it should be white text not black. Still, same exact bike.

        I HAD THAT BIKE!

Wow... what a blast from the past... I got it for my 6th birthday 1977.

Hey Bill, you inspired me to scan some of these finally. Heiler told me I was too ugly of a kid for Plaidstallions, so I have had a stack just sitting here waiting for another opportunity. These are my first two bikes, and I threw in a picture of me in front of mom's dishes that we were talking about eons ago for your viewing pleasure. The 'nana seater is from Kresge where my mom worked for awhile.

Nice trike! I had the red version of that exact model.

Great pics. I'll have to take a picture of my bike. It is my son's now. Another thing that I refused to have thrown away. It is a red Schwinn. The guy at the bike repair shop couldn't believe his eyes when I brought it in for new grease and tires.
                  It's all good!

That is nice! I haven't seen a HUFFY in 35+ years. I never owned one but the kid across the street had one. I thought that was so insanely cool.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

I really miss seeing those bikes, mine was a schwinn with that banana seat. My best friend growing up had this one. There is one very similar to this one at the local antique shop so I will have to take a close look at it. i remember it had some gears on the frame. Does that ring a bell? kinda like that old orange peeler bike.
