When you were 16, what did you have in common with your grandfather (or grandmother)?
All my grandparents did was #1 talk about the high price per pound a chuck roast costs at the grocery store, and #2 wanted me to turn off that "awful" music.

They should just make it illegal for anyone under 18 to get married, even if they're pregnant.
I never could understand how some people underage get charged with statutory rape and others underage are allowed to marry.
In other words, this 51 year old guy is allowed to marry a 16 year old ... but if she was caught having sex with an 17 year old guy, he'd go to jail.
There should just be a blanket law --- no marriage under 18

I am only saying as I LOVE to play Devil's Advocate...and Crisco Twister but that really is another thread...
I am NOT disagreeing with the general thought here that this is extremely wrong on many levels.
But this is a VERY modern invention. My own mother married her first husband at 14 years old. This was not at all uncommon prior to the 40's. 14-17 was the standard age for marrying for females even 100 years ago.
Slight twist on the argument here, there are many many stories of boys as young as 15, 16 and 17 falsifying their birth certificates in order to join the military in WW2. Many of these veterans are now regarded as heroes and rightfully so. The attitude about it is still, That wily scamp. If it happened even once today and a 16 year old was killed in Afghanistan, there would be a Congressional investigation, someone would be in prison and that family would be fighting off attorneys trying to represent them.
Attitudes and laws and customs may change in that 100 years, but the essential biology of the human being has not.
Courtney Stodden might legally be 16, but she looks like she has lived a very hard 16 years. She looks like she’s 28 already. Which is not bad for 28, but yeeesh.
she don't look 16. I smell a scam.
I give the marriage three weeks.
He'll run out of the house screaming after having to sit through the entire Twilight saga for the fifth time...

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
