Thread: Is something wrong with my Hal Jordan?

  1. #1

Question Is something wrong with my Hal Jordan?

    Hello there!

I just got my Guy Gardner Retro Action figure and I must say he looks pretty ace!

But after seeing how straight and solid he can stand compared to my Hal Jordan, it made me wonder if something really was wrong my my Hal. He sure can't keep his back straight and his butt/hips stick out kinda wonky sometimes.

After poking Google for a bit, I found this place. You guys seem to be the pros. In fact these two Green Lanterns are the only "Mego" like figures I own, so I wouldn't know where to start on fixing one of them.

Here are some pictures depicting the problem.

Is something wrong with the elastic bands in my Hal? Is there some way to fix this with out completely dismantling the figure? I have no problem getting handy if I have to as long as the instructions are clear and the parts and tools are readily available to me, but I'd to know if there are any quick fixes first. I'm open to hearing all sorts of suggestions. :D

He has the first version on the hip and abdomen.
, because its very slick plastic and shallow waist does not set right at the joint.
the Guy as a plastic connector in the abdomen/hip joint that prevent the movement

The first couple of waves of these figures have a problem standing up straight. There have been a few different solutions ranging from adding a piece of rubber tubing around the bands that go up into the torso - to completely rebuilding the pelvis so that the body sits in it a bit more securely.

If you poke around the EMCE forum, or use the search function you will come across some of the discussions concerning this body.

good luck with it and welcome to the museum

The Mattel bodies just plain suck! You're best bet is just replace the Body with a Cast-A-Way or Dr.Mego one. But be careful...removing the head you can easily tear the neckplug off. What I do is just "CRUSH" the torso with vicegrips. Then stick the hands in boiling hot water to remove them.

Oh! And welcome to the Mego Museum!!

It's amazing how the most effective process sounds so terribly violent.

I found the quickest fix is a couple strips of duct tape placed around the bottom of the torso. It creates enough friction to hold the body straight. If you move him he will probably get the bends but at least he will hold a pose for display.

The piece of plastic hose around the rubber bands works too.

Be aware of his emblem when you pull his suit down. It can split when the material stretches.
    And welcome....

You can also fix him by taking two cotton balls, and placing one in the front inner pelvis and the second on the back side of the inner pelvis. This fills the space which causes him to have the bends and corrects the problem.
It's not how hard you hit, but how hard you can be hit and still move forward.

There are a couple of other options also...but they require some time. You could also buy a Ghostbusters body and swap it. It has the corrected torso.
