When my family moved to the country in '75, my dad sold our house to the parents of Ted & Jerry Oates.
Columbus, GA was a huge Rasslin' market in the 60's/70's/80's. A lot of the wrestlers worked out at Oates Gymn, and there were major matches every Wednesday night at the municipal auditorium. There were also live matches every Saturday afternoon at the downtown sports arena to publicize the Wednesday night major event. President Carter's mother was in attendance nearly every week. Her favorite wrestler was the same as mine.

To be brutally honest...the American wrestlers do not interest me one bit...but I would definitely buy Santo & Blue Demon...because they were just more than luchadores and movie stars in Mexico...they were practically on a par with Catholic saints down there...non-wrestling fans love them...Santo & Blue Demon are like Villa & Zapata...they are now part of Mexican folklore.Last edited by Hector; Apr 26, '11, 5:40 PM.sigpicComment

Despite the fact that Tito Santana is of Mexican decent...he's completely unknown in Mexico.sigpicComment

Hector, we anglos have our own version of that. You might know him as The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes. "The man of the hour, the tower of power, always sweet and never sour, daddy!"Comment

Of course I know Dusty Rhodes...one of my all time favorites...
But masked luchadores are embedded into Mexican society like no others...like I said...even people who don't follow wrestling in Mexico...know who Santo and Blue Demon are...it's practically a part of Mexican history...lol.
Take my mom for example...she has absolutely no interest in wrestling...has no idea what that is...neither American or Mexican...I mentioned Dusty Rhodes to her...and she stares at me with a blank face...I mentioned Santo and Blue Demon...and she says..."Oh, those two, one with the silver mask, and the other one with the blue mask"...

Santo, Blue Demon, & Mil Mascaras would be a welcome addition to my collection. Man, I dreamed of Mego Wrestlers in the 70's. I used to make my own masked wrestlers by cutting the tips off of balloons and fitting them over the heads of my Megos.Comment
