It is surely a Mego item. In 1957, founder David Abrams reached an exclusive agreement with a Japanese manufacturer, to be their sole importer and sales representative. This is likely one such piece from that era; At the time, Abrams worked with several Japanese companies. This was all prior to establishing Lion Rock in Hong Kong, which occurred in 1963.

This is so awesome. Since we are discussing pre-1970 Megos and other oddities...

I really like that artwork on the firetruck. It reminds me of the artwork on Action Jackson boxes. I'll even bet it's the same artist. In my opinion, some of the best action figure box art ever.

This thread could easily be the basis for an entire new section of the Museum. I know we have a section called Other Mego Toys and the Catalogs, but a lot of this stuff just isn't in those Action Figure era catalogs. Of course the Cher fans might have a hissy fit, but tough noogies.

Seriously though Dan, thanks for sharing a great look at Mego history, and for collecting those items no one else wants to collect!

I'm fine if you want to move it to a public thread guys.....and even happier if we are able to showcase this stuff in a gallery somewhere.

Believe it or not...I actually have a little more of this I didn't photograph yet.

What year is that firetruck ?

That photo of the fireman yelling so much reminds me of the talking GI Joe boxes.

                Did it pre-date them ?

The Firetruck is 1971 Mickey.....and Brian is right that the box is cooler than the truck...even though the truck is pretty cool and it has "Mystery Action"....can anyone guess what the "Mystery Action" is?

                    It's a cigarette lighter?

I can make my 1970-1971 Mego Dealer catalog pages available.
I took quick pics for the JFK thread, but going forward, if there's demand,
I will scan the entire catalog of goodies.

The board has really been on a roll these last few days. That goofy looking JFK toy got something started and I have gained an interest in pre-AJ/WGSH MEGO Corp.

WOW! Dan, I knew you've alway liked the odd Mego toy, but I had no idea you had such a cool collection. (Though I do remember you bringing the Puppet Love Theater to MegoCon).

I realize this a request for more work from Brian, Scott, Rob and Dan, but I would love to see this stuff added to the Museum. It really helps explain so much more about Mego.

There's plenty of room, we just need to time and the material.

                                I'll start scanning the catalog,
and can send them to Scott or Brian in batches.
