Plaid Stallions Giganta is alive and well in Texas

I got a happy email this week in the form of this photo from Cory, who showed me that a vintage Giganta is still in good condition and being enjoyed in Benbrook Texas. I featured Giganta on the site a couple of years ago and it's awesome to see one survived the polyester decade.

Occasionally folks do send me shots of vintage playground equipment still in use but they're usually sad shells of their former selves or about to be dozed, so it's really great to see one still providing smiles. Rock on Giganta!

    That is so cool.
Never seen anything like it before.

very nice, never seen, nor heard of Giganta before. Question, why does it have a female name and look male? not that this matters much, just a thought running in my head.

It's nice to see some old school playground equipment being enjoyed instead of that sterile, miserable "Pepsi playpark" crap. I call it that b/c that's who started making the type of playground equipment we commonly see these days back in the late 80s. Playgrounds have no character, no uniqueness anymore. The colors may vary, a bridge or steering wheel may be added, but they're bascially the same thing. I miss the days of metal slides, the cement climbers and nautilus, monkey bars, see saws, sand pits, and the occasional sprinkler set for wet fun in the summer. (can you tell I grew up in NYC! )
