looks pretty damn awesome to me. i think it will stand on it's own merits as well. if it is successful and they continue with the evolution of the apes in sequels we could get to the point of the original where they have their own society and walk more upright like humans

This new international trailer caught my attention. Looks like the movie might have a strong emotional core. Some good animated acting.

I'm a little weary about this one. The original based itself around the concept of a nuclear holocaust and the humble surviving apes progressing along an evolutionary path. This story line seems like its gonna be too awkward for any sequel developement.
Even Lucas knew it was smarted to begin in the middle and then go back to the beginning.Comment

I've seen that trailer in the last three films I've been to see. And in each instance the crowd reaction was nonexistent. To me, Apes falls under the same category as Frankenstein. If your making a new film about that topic, you must bring them to the screen the way people want them cosmetically. Those images are simply too iconic to be overlooked, regardless of how well you do everything else in a film.Comment

Saw the trailer for this yesterday prior to GL, and the apes don't look good to me, at all. If the point of using CGI vs. makeup was to add an element of realism, it seems to me that they missed the mark entirely. It's not simply the appearance that bugs me, but the unnatural movement. From the infant in the box, all the way through the leaping apes, my mind just couldn't suspend reality enough to buy into it.
I really want to like this movie, but it just won't let me.Comment

My wife just slapped the heck out of my arm. I had my computer on the picture and she said it was creepy. After asking what the bleep it was...lolComment

This, IMO, is going to work. It has more in common with Conquest than Buton's dump as it jettison's that movie's entire backstory.
If you look closely, you see Cesar is wearing a variation of the Conquest jumpsuit and in another clip, he's apparently taught them how to make weapons. Supposedly, Cesar will utter only one word but I think that's a con. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a variation of the Conquest speech for the end.Comment

I like the trailer but as a stand alone movie, not part of the Planet of the Apes I know. I would have liked it better if it told the story that led up to Conquest instead of a reimagining of that movie. Having a CGI ape play the character made famous by Roddy Mcdowell is the equivalent of having Marky Mark play Heston. But then, this is not aimed at 40-60 year olds who are fans of the originals. Its aimed at teens and young adults who probably never saw the originals.
