    ULTRON-5: The Living Automation

Here is my version of Ultron-5 the greatest, and most horrific, invention of one Dr Henry Pym. Nowhere can I find a Mego-like custom made of this character so we may be witnessing history here

I have had the body for the better part of 10 years just waiting for the perfect head to come along. It is Zem-21 from Ideal's Star Team (see pic below from M E G O L I K E . c o m :Mego Knockoffs: AHI : enter)

The only concern I had with this body is that it is easily 9" when combined with a head, but I always thought Ultron was "larger than life" anyway so I went with it.

Head is a direct mold of a Bowen bust with some slight modifications. I decided to make the entire head chrome to match the body exactly instead of adding any color, like the mouth and eyes are sometimes "red" in the comics. I think the "all-chrome" look works for him.

Ultron-5 busting through the wall going to kick some Avenger tookus.

With custom Megos Wasp and Antman and original Megos Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. Tried the best I could to squeeze them all in front of my backdrop. Time to get a bigger backdrop.

I think I made the right choice with the scale. I love the fact he is bigger than the rest of the Avengers.

Here is Zem-21 in all his late 1970s glory.

I hope you enjoyed my Ultron-5. He has been a long time coming and he looks phenomenal standing between Wasp and Antman in my display case. He is easily one of my favorite customs I have ever had the pleasure of making. I guess good things do come to those who wait.

    As always, "Thanks for looking!"

    Peace, Love and Megos,

    Austin

Nice looking figure. Body works well for it. What paint did you use for the head. It seems to shine a lot like the body which is tough to duplicate.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

There was a lot of trial and error involved.

First, I cast the head using a metallic silver Allumilite powder coating the inside of the mold. The head came out pretty well but not as shiny as I had hoped.

I then coated the head with Rustoleum's Grip and Guard, but it had just the opposite effect as I had hoped for. It dulled it down.

Then I tried to use a spray glosscotte from Testor's but that didn't do the trick either.

Back to formula I went and cast the head three times in white. Each head I painted with a different Testor's spray. German Silver Metallic, Aluminum and Chrome.

The winner was the Testor's spray Chrome. No sealer. No glosscotte. Just a couple coats of the paint.

                              Thanks for asking.

BTW if I had read the can in the first place I would have seen that you should never use a glosscotte on a "metallic" paint. It takes away the whole "metallic" look. Go figure.
