Thread: The AE/SI auctions that just lasted for less than 1/2 an hour...

I had convinced myself that the head with the Grayson clothes is an SI Wayne head. But looking at it now the dirty one with the Batman suit could be the BW head. I think one of them likely is for sure. Maybe the seller didn't get everything or maybe the kid did ditch 'em. Seems like somebody negotiated a hell of a deal either way.

It seemed odd that all the mego stuff was misidentified when she had no problem figuring out the Big Jim stuff though.

As far as messaging the seller now, I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. If the buyer was a member here and they negotiated a sweet deal, having one of us squeal and share the book value would cause LOTS of problems.

Trust me, I did it last year and it caused a member here to lose out on a very rare Mego at a great price (ask Charlie aka MegoGeek)

I did not know he was the one who had negotiated the deal, but it caused him to miss out on it because the seller re-neged on their deal and relisted it. I thought I was doing the right thing by "educating" the seller as to what he had, but it cost Charlie dearly. Truthfully, I was also being selfish because I wanted the item too.

Fortunately, he was gracious enough to forgive me.

So...lesson learned for me. And I wouldn't go there ever again.

I was waiting for a thread to pop up on this event. I was playing thru the scenario in my mind earlier tonight. My hypothesis was that the Mego Police informed seller what she had, she took the auctions down and will relist the items piece by piece in the next 48 hours.

The more I think about it though, the more likely a back door deal it was.

    why share the value anyway?

in today's world one should be able to figure it out. if they can't too bad for them.
If you need a hole, I can dig it.

Yeah... I hadn't tried to wedge in once I didn't hear back, and that was one of the main concerns. Seriously though when the parts come in I'm just hoping there's a "New Acquisitions" post so I can hear how it went down.

Timb - I'm sure a lot of dealing goes on. I've never really wrapped my head around the "mego police" concept. It seems like a sewer alligator story to me, but maybe there's a particular story that I don't know about which spawned this meme. Anecdotes would be welcome.

I can see one angle, and honestly I've done it myself... there have been a few times where I've had a seller that didn't quite know what they had, was feeling around for prices and could easily blow up into an aquashark situation. I've told them look, you've got this. This is the value, this is where you can look it up, and I'm interested in this one bit... please hook me up at a fair rate. More often than not they've verified it for themselves and sold what I wanted to me at a gratitude discount... But that's the only way running around playing Captain Price Quote seems to make sense to me, right?
