Auction Kings on the Discovery Channel

This show is actually pretty cool...Discovery is showing an Auction Kings mini-marathon...and I'm throughly enjoying this show...

The cast is very likable...and unlike something like Pawn Stars or American Pickers...they don't hassle their customers for prices...that's up to the auction crowd...the stuff ranges from $100-250 books...to antiques such as old Coke machines and cars worth thousands of dollars....heck...even a hot air balloon...lol.

    Good little show.

They don't have to hassle the seller for price, as an auction house they take a flat commission of (usually 20%) off the top. They don't pay for inventory only the shop and marketing. I have a dislike of Pickers becuase they are going out to people to convince them to sell. I have no issue with Pawn stars (or pawn shops in general) as the seller comes in to sell and no one forces them to take the price. I am actually surprised people even bother to bring smaller stuff to pawn stars with ebay or gunbroker as such an accessible web auction avenues

I think needing fast cash is most peoples problem, especially in Vegas... of course I am sure some of those people get compensated for being on the show or know a fixed price is coming for ratings

Just saw an episode for the first time last night. It seemed okay--the guy talking to the ax expert was kind of funny. One thing I thought was weird was it used some of the American Pickers' incidental music.

Been watching the show from the get-go. I like the show. One thing I find a bit humorous is the female manager who will usually take phone bids during auctions and gets excited when she has won the auction for her bidder. She almost seems to get a big adrenaline rush for winning the auction even though she is not the person buying the item....I think it's pretty cool that she is passionate in that way.

When I found out their auction house is one exit over from my brother's in ATL I got all excited. I love going to auctions and want to go over there to check them out. I like the show too Hector. It's amazing what people bring in. And you can check out their website to see when the next auction is and what's coming up for bids.

I see the same kind of rush in the bidder assistants at the Barret jackson auctions (and that is even cooler as the auction is televised live) I can spend hours watching people bid on cars I'll never afford
