From the Mego Museum to my High Definition blu-rays of Logan's Run, Star Trek (although a 1960's series, a 1970's phenomenon), Planet Of The Apes, Space:1999 most everything new is to help retrieve the old or to fulfill that 1970's kid that wanted to get all those Mego figures and to be able to watch Star Trek or a Planet Of The Apes movie whenever he wanted (without having to wait for the TV station to run it first).

Not quite so in my case. If I really could have the 70s again, I'd give up all this stuff to do it. I don't really subscribe to all this bigger and better technology.

I'll meet you halfway.......Although I get a kick out of owning stuff like Batman '66, The Lone Ranger and Twilight Zone on DVD (not even talking Blu-Ray here) there's modern shows like Seinfeld, Friends, Family Guy and Lost that I enjoy just as well popping in.

Just because it was "from the 70s" doesn't make it "gold" for me..there's a lot of schlock in there as well. I thought I'd be excited about the POTA TV series on DVD as I was a big fan as a kid ( I remember being torn between staying home on Friday night to watch it or go to the school to watch their Friday Night Disney Movies) but after I got it I only watched it through once. So it's collecting dust on the shelf. Not everything I thought it would be.

I'm thinking the same will hold true for SMDM on DVD...Although I'm wanting the Time-Life set I'm thinking that after the intial viewing of Season One I probably won't get that much further. And if I did it definitely wouldn't be repeated viewings.

And I personally think technology is GREAT. Would I give it all up to go back to the 70s? Hell, no. I like my tech plus the 70s weren't all they were cracked up to be for me....Parents divorced and there was a lot of collateral damage with me brother and I.

If I could chose a decade to relive it would definitetly be the 80s!

I am, of course, not talking about all things from the 70's categorically.

I am talking about the things we individually enjoyed in the 70's in our 70's centric group.

Also' when I am talking about how most stuff today sucks eggs, I am thinking of sci-fi(it all pretty much looks the same and is aimed at the geek) and even though I am not primarily a comic book fan I hear the same thing from comic book fans.

The imagination is sucked out and it is replaced with self referential nuggets, CGI set pieces and a good helping of babes to keep the geeks hooked. The color and whimsy of the stuff I like largely a thing of the past.

That doesn't mean I don't enjoy some of the modern stuff, but I don't like it like the older stuff. And it's all about the attitude and execution, not the fact that it's not at least 30 years old.
