    Interplanetary Star Fortress

I really dig unlicensed catalog play sets like this star fortresss. I'm sure that more than a few grandmothers were fooled into thinking this was a death star. I've never seen one but it looks to be entirely of laminated cardboard, I wonder how many survived?
Also as a Star Wars nerd, the concept of Yoda, Lando and Hoth Han teaming up against Vader, Fett, Bossk and a whole lot of Storm Troopers reminds me a lot of 1981.

I'm guessing Tara made this. It looks similar to their famous "Hulk Hideaway" playset.

Unlicensed or not, it's well executed!

That would be my guess as well, the construction is too similiar.

I had one of these as a kid. Wow! Had forgotten about it. Everything inside was cardboard except the twin cannon over on the left. That piece survived long after the rest of it was gone and stayed with my Star Wars stuff til the end.

I remember this ad from way back when. I'll admit I thought it would've been a better Buck Rogers playset than a Star Wars one.

i bought one of them off ebay a few years ago , it is huge. It was in the box and pretty cool.
i collect the vintage Xmas catalogs as well and saw it and looked it up. I think it was listed wrong or spelled wrong or something and i picked it up pretty cheap. It was cheaply made but it was thicker than some of the MEGO playsets.
If I can locate it in one of my storage areas , I will take some images of it set up .

I still have mine from when I was a kid. I got it for christmas with the Buck Rogers figures and ships. My kids currently are using it to play with there Transformers.
The small pod looking thing is made out of the same material as the case but the rest of the stuff is thin cardboard. The plastic gun turret went on top of it.

that is awesome, being a huge vintage star wars fan I am suprised that I have never seen this. I take it the item was made for all the sci-fi figures that were popular at the time and not star wars in particular.

                      Brian,

I may be off base but wasnt these something like this made for Space:1999 ? I recall asking my Mom to buy me some punch-out and assemble Space:1999 cardboard playset. It had moonbase floors and walls and cut outs of the characters. Have you ever seen one? Would you have a picture of one?

I think Amsco made it John, the same people that made the Planet of the Apes set.

I had completely forgotten about this playset until now. A friend of mine had one of these, I thought it was great. I love the unlicensed stuff like this, I'll probably wind up seeking one of these out soon for the collection now!
