I also found it interesting that the comic shop guy only mentioned selling in conventions or at the comic con, but no mention of ebay, which is the easiest and most obvious place to sell them.

I used to own some of those pieces. I was watching the clip with my son, and I said "do you remember (that one and that one) used to be in Daddy's collection?"

I was hoping you'd chime in, as I figured some of those had passed through you.

Well, I think there are two obvious possibilities.

Either he volunteered his collection for a staged show, or he lost his collection by not paying fees on a storage locker.

If a collector lent his (or her) collection to the show, I'm sure they had to sign an agreement that they can't talk about it. These shows have to protect themselves.

Wow. So this whole thing was bogus to sell the premise of buying storage lockers? Sounds fraudulent to me. It seems there would have to be a disclaimer somewhere for that.

The other storage locker show (Auction Hunters I think it's called) does put a disclaimer up which says the finds on the show are examples of previous items claimed to have been found by storage buyers. Similar to the Repo Men show, which re-enacts crazy and violent situations the participants claimed to have experienced.

Again, as with any reality TV series, there's a lot of behind the scenes manipulation that provides framework, storylines, etc.

You'd think the collector who "donated" these toys for the show would figure it may cause discussion and speculation, considering they showed some of the most rare and desirable Mego figures. I like how he now has a gag-order about the topic...kinda funny in a geeky way.

I wonder if the Shrunken Head Collector Community is discussing the same thing right now?

It just casts a bad light on the whole series. If I want to watch fiction about making rare finds, I'll watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Indiana Jones.
