Not Mego Shogun Warriors Mecha Godzilla

Well not exactly. I have a beater Mattel Shogun Warrior Godzilla. I always thought it would have been awesome had Mattel actually made some sort of cyborg Godzilla to fit in better with the Shogun toy line.

However the difference with my idea is that it would be using the same mold as their crappy Godzilla (lets face it, the body on that thing strongly resembles Grover from Sesame Street). Obviously it would be too easy to actually use Japanese toy Mecha Godzilla parts since so many versions and sizes of him exist. I choose for the different route and said "what if I used Mattel's existing Godzilla figure and tried to give him a more robotic like appearance?"

so far ONLY phase one was done and that was giving him a basic base coat of white, which if you wanted to make a "snow Godzilla" this is what he would look like. I will add more to this as work progresses.

I plan on him (in the end) being fully chrome colored, possibly with red light up eyes and something to go over that shooting fist, possible shield on chest, missiles on legs, etc

Not to sound stupid, but why not just buy the Bullmark Jumbo vinyl, or the new reissue of it?

Because it would not be a Mattel Shogun Warriors Mecha Godzilla then would it? That would totally defeat the point of doing this custom

PS: in other upgrade news I think it was premature for me to give him a base paint. I am seriously considering sanding down that rough texture a bit (using dremel and sand paper) and then applying Apoxie sculpt and really give him that square-ish (but in Shogun theme) appearance, then paint. Also considering making the stomach open to shoot something.

Definitely going to give him the light up eyes and removing that back lever with the stupid tongue

I am wanting one of those lever/tongue assemblies. If'n you crack him open to get rid of it, lemme know and I'll swap you for it or buy it from you.

Sorry I was thinking LITERAL and haven't really even thought of the hand shooting Godzilla in terms other than Jumbo Machinder since I bought the Popy Jumbo of Zilla out of Mark Huckabone's collection in the early 1990's.
Personally they both could use a lot of tweaking because both have good and bad points.
(I always had a problem with the mattel zilla not having the back fins, but the popy is a bit long necked & runty).
I loved the mattel godzilla as a kid and I always longed for a literal mechagozilla to go with him.
If enough money were thrown at the project, something seriously amazing could result.
Personally I would sculpt /recast mechagodzilla pieces to match that 70's "LOOK", but do it to match the mattel zilla in scale.
Perhaps take parts from several cool versions that have that right look by resizing existing mechas to be the size you need.
You have your own vision and are going for something in an entirely different direction, so I wish you luck.
Should be sweet with the light up LED eyes - perhaps working off the neck lever?
Maybe repaint the tongue to look like a lazer blast?

As a Big G fan and having played the heck outta my Mattel G in my youth, I'm looking forward to seeing how this Mecha G project progresses.

And I gave an arrogant reply, which was no better. I am using the 1970s version of Mecha G as a reference. I am not the best with "sculpting", still I have professionally made customs (One's customs) that used apoxiesculpt and I like the way the material works (lots of youtube vids showing it)-- it is not too liquidy, takes about 4 hours before it really starts to harden and is closer to a "plastic" and stronger than clay or scuplty. Since I am going to be "covering" the Mattel Godzilla, I will probably use cardboard and bendy wires (garbage ties) and actually build a new body base which would then be covered by the sculpty. This will help in giving him that shape I want as well as making sure I do it correctly.

Really I am winging it as I go along. The back lever is getting removed and I will put a fake back spike in it's place. This will serves as the battery placement -on/off switch for the eyes. The new eye covers are either going to be clear resin or easier to use and can hold the led lights- hot glue. Since the tongue is also going bye bye, I might put a blue led by the mouth and that can emulate the laser of death shooting out of his mouth

DONE! Keep in mind some white spray paint is on the tonuge as well as the lever but should be easy enough to remove. Funny thing is this beater still had the button for shooting off the fist. That piece is almost as lost as the Mazinga brain ship. I took that button and put back on my own Mattel Godzilla to be complete again
