Vegemite and Marmite; The same thing?

Interesting conversation yesterday with the General about British food, presented a question I'd like to know the answer to, if anyone can shed a little light here; I'm always looking for new and interesting stuff to put in my protein shakes and our resident General inspired a great idea... I want to get some Marmite, Branson Pickle, and some other English foods. I have some Vegemite from Australia... Is it the same thing as Marmite???

Other suggestion for the protein power shakes are greatly appreciated as well... I call him Jonzageneral, after my best friend from grade school; John Zagenra. He reminds me of him...

    Sandy,

From my understanding what my friends from Oz told me that Vegemite and Marmite are similar in composition, the by-product of beer brewing, the brewers yeast extract. Only difference is that Marmite is far more intense.
I love Vegemite and great on a grilled sandwhich which I had at a local Oz pub.

I tasted Vegemite on a cracker once - it was vile. Astronaut food for prisoners in space, as far as I'm concerned. What the f' Australia?

Sorry, I have no clue about the answer to the question.

I've always thought Marmite was the British version of Vegemite. Both are made from yeast extract. I've heard it's an aquired taste.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Maybe I should start with that first then, huh?

I think you should just get some Marmite as well and do a blindfold taste test with both.

That way you could let your palate decide.
