Tardis Dr Who and the Daleks + Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 AD ... talk

Just watched a double feature tonight ... Dr Who and the Daleks & Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 AD.

It's been so long since i've seen them I forgot how much fun they are.

My earliest memory of them goes back to the mid 70's.

At the time I only knew of Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker as the Doctor.

A local TV station played Dr Who and the Daleks on a Saturday afternoon ...

I could not believe my eyes seeing Peter Cushing AS Dr Who ... and his last name was actually Who

It was because of the first movie, I always thought Barbara was Dr Who's granddaughter (along with Susan).
I never seen Hartnells at the time so the Peter Cushing movies were my first taste of anything pre-Pertwee.

Both are great movies if you're in the mood for some Who Lite

Like Mike I first saw the Cushing Films before ever seeing the original stories they were remakes of (in the 70's & early 80's I think both were on the missing lists). I think that helped me really enjoy them as I didn't have a shot by shot comparison running through my head.

I've watched them since and can still enjoy them kind of the way many enjoy the new ST movie

I always loved cushing in the Hammer horror's so it was cool to see him in this lighter role

I dunnno how I missed these on local TV here in NY but I had never seen then them until the mid-1990's on WWOR TV here in NY. My friends thought it was hilarious the way the Dalek was thrown down the ramp of their spaceship and then the soundtrack breaks into a roaring Jazz solo. Also the interchange between the human and the Dalek seems to have been used in The Phantom Menace between the Jedi and the robot army guy right before the Jedi break the Queen free from captivity.

    We are from sector (whatever).

Robot thinks it over, We have no one from Sector_____!

    Fight breaks out.

I seem to recall that happening in the Dalek film too.

The only Who I saw as a kid was Tom Baker, anything else came much much later.
Now, thanks to Mike, I'm catching up on things

I actually have these on DVD. Dr. Who light is an apt description. I enjoyed them though

I love these films and actually prefer them over the TV story versions.

I do have one question ......

I've read they actually wanted William Hartnell to play the Doctor in them, but they couldn't get him because he was contracted into doing the series for BBC.
William Hartnell actually wanted to do them but the BBC wouldn't allow it.

My question is, if they did get William Hartnell would the whole backstory have changed ? ... meaning his name and Barbara was a school teacher ?

If not, it would have been crazy confusing to see Hartnell playing in both series and movies and both have nothing to do with eachother.

I think everything would have remained "in-tact" Mike. The main reason I heard they wouldn't let Hartnell and the TV actors do the films in color,( that would'a been sweet!), is the TV series dominated like 45 production weeks outta' the year. For whatever reason the BBC would not cut a season short to allow them to work on a film. I think if Hartnell went to do the film so would many of the people from the TV show and that clout would have enabled them to keep the details correct. I have always read Hartnell as The Doctor was wildly popular and I guess they felt the Tv division would'a been short-changed allowing him to go to film. I wish they would've done it after he left the TV series. He had plenty of time then.

I haven't seen those films in years. I may breakdown and buy them on DVD.
