I stayed in a big fancy hotel in the lower left hand corner of this pic.

At the time they had erected a huge tent in the square to display a photography/film exhibition called Ashes and Snow. Ironically, the artist was Canadian! We had travelled to the other end of the continent to see the work of our countryman.

Although there were more than enough works by Diego and Frida within throwing distance.

Just down the street from here were ruins that they had uncovered. My understanding was that it meant that the seat of power had not moved too far geographically, even before the Europeans.

What I loved about family day was the fact that all the museums and galleries were free. We managed to hit a half dozen of them.

My friend's brother was going to take us to see the Lucha Libres, but unfortunately they were not on during the weekend when we were there. We did get to see the Folklore Ballet at this place here (but forgive me if I would have preferred to see the the Mexican Wrestling!)

Man, I love the murals that Diego Rivera created. Time and place captured and relayed to generations to come.

Just this spring, I was sitting in a Restaurant with my extended family and I noticed a big mural on the wall. I asked, "You know who that mural reminds me of?"

My Dad didn't even look up from his plate and said, "Diego Rivera.".

Here's a great one from the Palacio Nacional (the building in the top right of the square in the pic below).

and this one down the street at the Diego Mural Museum. I spent about an hour looking at it. There was so much going on in it and it was so huge.

Interesting. Not what I expected; some really cool architecture. Looks like some folks are really rich.

Perhaps the Beatles were influenced by Diego Rivera.

Those photos are great! I love Mexico City, It's such a rich place. The Anthropology museum in Chapultepec park is just freakin' AWESOME. The museum next to the Templo Major, the ceremonial centre of the Aztecs is amazing too.
