Craig's List is totally one of those "right time, right place" kind of things. I see people sell stuff for CHEAP on there all the time not knowing what they've got. Your best bet might be to post a "Wanted" post for old stretch toys. You never know what someone might have lying around.

There was a guy doing them a couple of years ago, he kept relisting them as they never sold do to his incredibly high prices. They looked decent enough, but for what he was asking people would rather have an original in the box.
also, for some strange reason, he would cast them using different colours of latex (including a PINK stretch monster), and I honestly dont know how he was making them.

a stretch monster dip mold sold on ebay several years ago. I believe there was even a discussion on the old museum boards about it, I'm thinking possibly 10 years ago even. I may even have the auction pics on an old harddrive.

if he managed to get a hold of that, combined with the crazy insight he had by being so fanatical it was probably pretty easy for him to do it. he just valued them way to high.
