    Oceanic Flight 815 Playset

Behold my geekiness! I'm embarking on a project to convert the Barbie Friendship playset into an Oceanic Flight 815 for Lost BifBangPow! Megos. Here's a video tour of the playset and a discussion of the challenges involved, much easier than typing it all out.

This is going to be interesting because I'm working with an old playset and coming up with new ways to customize it and still keep the vintage feel.

Brilliant. I'm sure it'll kick some butt.

I know, I feel more than a bit mad, but I just can't shake how cool I think it will be.

I gotta get these playsets out of my system...

Ha! Not so much over this stuff anymore, we eventually figured out how to work with it as long as it doesn't interfere with real life. Having projects keeps me happy and sane.

I don't think this will be the centerpiece of our living room, though.

great stuff!! You should also pick up the Big Jim plane Scott...it comes with a cockpit design like you want...Its only money..

I love the Matty plane playset...the layout and portability when folded up is fantastic. Would be a great format to build other playsets in as well!!

                  Good luck!

I didn't realize the Big Jim plane actually had a cockpit seat...that's very interesting. Since I'm having to scratch build the seats I'd want to make them all out of the same stuff anyway, but it's good to know....

Its a telegraph I think? I have two planes...bought them both as an adult, and never did get an instruction sheet, but I'm pretty sure its a telegraph. Crank it up with the crank, and then theres the little dit-dot doohickey on the bottom. I know the planes came with a morse code card, so I think my guess is pretty much on the money.

Why you would use a telegraph on a plane...no idea? Hey, it was the seventies, fun before function!!

Sounds like an interesting venture, Scott. Even though I'm not a Lost fan, I can't wait to see it finished.

Wow, didn't think your Lost obsession (can I call it that?) would take you this far, but I am really looking forward to this. It'll be interesting to see how you solve the scale issue. The luggage compartments should be easy, the floor platform presents a problem when you want figures walking in the isle, so I can't wait to see how you solve that one

It certainly beats pushing a button over and over again as obsessions go eh?

Thanks so much for posting those videos of your plans Scott! Looking forward to seeing more vids with the work in progress. I can't believe I'm enjoying watching a grown man play with his Barbies so much!

The pull apart aspects as well as the before/after crash transformation idea is mind-blowing.

At least you have an existing Heroes head sculpt to use for your pilot figure when you re-enact the smoke monster tearing him apart.

Love the idea of you being able to re-enact moments such as Jack and Rose sitting across the aisle from each other while Bernard is in the back and Charlie is doing drugs up front.

Or splitting the plane apart into a larger island set and placing Bernard, Anna Lucia and Mr Ekko in the back section, the pilot and cockpit in the jungle and the middle section on the beach ready to blow.
