Big Jim Question: The figure, not a big guy named James

A colleague of mine told me she wants to buy some toys for her husband as a Christmas gift. She wasn't sure what, exactly, they were so she "of course" (her words) came to me. She said his big brothers took his GI Joe with some sort of karate thing. I gave the recently-released Kung Fu Grip GI Joe I had in my office (I guess that's where the "of course" came from). Then she said he had some doll that had something that "popped off" and she pointed to her flexing bicep. That's where you guys come in. I know very little about Big Jim so here are my questions.

-How hard is to find a basic Big Jim loose? in package?

-Does that band-popping action usually work after all these years?

-What should I expect to pay to get one off eBay for her (she'll pay me back)?

    -Anything else I should know?

    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

Sportsman Jims are pretty common loose and not all that hard in the box, Mattel seemed to over produce them. A lose Jim is pretty easy and many of the outfits are dirt cheap MOC.

Yeah but watch for arm melt or discolouring.

-What should I expect to pay to get one off eBay for her (she'll pay me back)?
A clean loose regular Big Jim shouldn't cost more than $20, unsure about a boxed one anywhere from $125-200 would be my guess.

    Anything else I should know?
European big jims have almost Kung Fu grip hands, your friend won't probably want one of those.

          BUT--

After looking at a bunch of loose figures, I see most do not come with his steel band to pop off the bicep.

Is there a place to get repro bands? Or can I easily pick one of these up somewhere?

I re-build and collect Big Jim figures. If you look in the customs forum you can see my work on the Big Jim campers. I have lots of extra figures for customs and can save you some time and trouble with trying to get a good deal on e-bay. Drop me an a-mail here---> aadesign@nctc.com I can re-suit you a nice complete Big Jim for a fair price.
