    My Bachelor Weekend

The Wife went to Montreal to visit with the In Laws this weekend, so it was just me and the puppy hangin' out at home.

Between the G20 Craziness in Toronto and the torrential rain, we were stuck inside, so I decided to pull out my big bag of custom parts that I had been sitting on for a few years now and start painting and assembling.

I enjoyed it a great deal, particularly after hanging out at the custom table at Mego Meet. I'm really going to have to practice dotting the eyes though.

Awesome! No matter how much I love my husband, I enjoy when he goes out with friends and I can stay home and work uninterrupted on stuff like this. Thanks for posting those pics!
For the eye dots, what are you using? I like to use a sharpened toothpick, or if I'm adding the tiny highlight, the tip of a pin. Neither one works the best for strokes, but with practice they make great dots. I'm currently trying small lengths of fishing line in place of a brush for eyelashes.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

    Check out my customs!

Thanks for the tip on eyes del! Greatly appreciated. I was using the smallest brush I had to try and dot the eyes, with less than satisfactory results and very little control over the final results.

I'm going to have to white out these eyes again and start over with the pin and toothpick.

Looking at the customs I own that were painted by guys like BLeit, Chris DMV, Random Axe and others, I'm just amazed at what a steady hand they must have to place such tiny dots exactly where they are supposed to go.

I really need to do this with my custom pile as well. Congratulations on getting to work on yours!

Has anyone ever tried making their own eyebrow stencil? I simply don't have a steady enough hand to make eyebrows or other small brush details and I thought stencils might be the way to go for making nice crisp lines on a small face detail like that.

Looking forward to seeing you start on those Planetary customs!

I just wish you guys were sitting around the table with me. Customizing is a solitary activity other than showing you guys on the board.

Thanks for your kind words everyone. I realize I'm still a huge novice at this and was a bit nervous about showing my work in progress given how many great custom creations are displayed every day on this board.

Here are tonight's heads I worked on.

I picked up some great pointers at the meet. Whomever suggested working in an assembly line process doing multiple heads at once depending on colour and brush required really streamlined the process for me compared to when I first started on some of these projects a few years ago. It's much easier than just doing one head at a time and constantly cleaning brushes and waiting for paint on a single head to dry before proceeding to the next stage.

    The clothespins are also essential.

I'm working with Mego73 to design a card as we speak.

I agree. I think I'll start a thread on having a customizing fair and see if I can organize some kind of a regional get together to assemble figures.
