    GREASE figures might be neat

I'm not sure how true this is but I heard a rumor that Mego was going to make Grease action figures but something happened and it never came to be.

Was just thinking it would be neat if EMCE made them ... Especially because of the connection to Mego (if the rumors are true)

I also think Grease has enough of a cult following (by both men and woman) that a line would be a success.

Exclusive Premier produced a lousy set about 10 years ago but they were forgotten because of bad quality and zero hype.

    Watcha think ?

A couple of new heads on fonzie bodies and a neat excuse to make a few more female figures why not!

I could see Mego having done the line. Reusing the Fonzie garage playset.

I'm sure it would have been a headache in terms of licensing, being that John Travolta's 12 inch license was held by one company and Mattel had the Welcome Back Kotter 8 inch Travolta.

Sometimes I think people spend time thinking of the most ridiculous lines imaginable and post them to see if people will bite.

I've got many many female friends who consider Grease to be their "Star Wars".

At any wedding or event with dancing I've attended, there is usually shrieks of joy followed by a stampede to the dance floor when they play something from the Grease soundtrack.

If marketed correctly towards female doll collectors, I think Grease Mego's could be a win.

How well did the Grease Barbies do?

I'd still like to know and see where the Mego Grease prototypes are.

Is there pictures of the Grease Prototypes?

All I've found via google is the Fonzie Jalopy in the MM that says it was pitched as Greased Lightning for the Grease line.

Just found the reference... it's the Bonavita book.
Mego Action Figures - Mego Price Guide

Mego often began working on action figure lines that would get scrapped at the last minute, leaving the action figure collecting world wondering what it would have been like to have action figures based on such pop culture characters as The Green Hornet, The Phantom, Kung Fu, Land of the Lost and the hit movie Grease.

The thing about doing GREASE ....

So far just about all (if not all) of the reMegos have been geared toward men - even though there are some women fans too most are male oriented.

A GREASE line would be different ... It would be a great way of sneaking into the female market and still keeping the male fans.

I would compare a GREASE line to doing Wizard of Oz ... Which was a highly successful Mego line.

Thanks Scott! I'm running to my bookshelf to grab the 2nd edition.

Got it! It's on page 143. It's a small black and white picture from a catalogue(?). Fonzie's Jalopy is in there along with Kineckie, Sandy, Rizzo and Danny. Neat. Wish there was a bigger pic of the figures.

Looks like my scanner isn't working properly right now, apologies. It really is a tiny b&w pic, and difficult to make out any details of the figures themselves.

So I guess now wouldn't be the time to suggest a line of "Good Morning Vietnam" figures? Just think, all they'd have to do is rework the old Mork figure...

Or better yet, how about a line of "Family Ties" figures... If the line's successful, they could transform Alex (Michael J. Fox) into "Marty McFly", "Teen Wolf" etc... The possibilities are endless....
