What do you consider the best horror movie performance ever

What is your favorite horror movie performance ever?

To me, it's Karloff as the Monster in Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein.

Gotta agree with Karloff on that one... A close second would have to be Griffin Dunne in "An American Werewolf in London".

          I agree on both counts.

Karloff was the monster to me and still is.
AAWIL was just a brilliant film.

I can't pick just one but here are a few performances that impressed me,
Boris Karloff in Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein
Bela Lugosi in Son of Frankenstein and White Zombie
Fredric March in Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde
Peter Cushing in practically any Horror film he made. Even in films that didn't deserve it he always gave 110%. Curse of Frankenstein and Tales From The Crypt are two that come to mind right away.

Robert Englund in thefirst "a Nightmare on Elm Street" he brought the character to life and on top of that he became a pop culture icon. Just because guys like Lee, Cushing,Karloff, and Legosi paved the way, doesn't mean others cannot surpass their performance.

Anthony Hopkins. Silence of the Lambs.

Although I have to agree about Karloff's Monster in Frankenstein. He really breathed life and humanity into the creature even underneath all that make-up.

Hands down - Karloff as the monster. Probably more in the Bride than the initial offering. Brilliant performance under all of that makeup.

Lon Chaney, Jr. in The Wolfman is probably my favorite. Others would be Christopher Lee, Chris Sarandon in Fright Night, and Claude Rains in the Invisible Man.

I agree...those two performances were once in a lifetime kinda thing...Karloff was mesmerizing.

In second place...I'd have to say Lon Chaney Sr in The Phantom of the Opera.

Third...Vincent Price in House On Haunted Hill (shout out to The Abominable Dr. Phibes as well)

Fourth...Lon Chaney Jr in The Wolf Man

Fifth...Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula

                          A lot of good choices.

My top 5 — for today anyway — are:

                          1. Karloff
                          2. Hopkins as Lector in Silence of the Lambs
                          3. Jack Nicholson in the Shinning
                          4. Love Lugosi as Ygor in Son of Frankenstein
                          5. Roy Schieder in Jaws
Well, 6. Anthony Perkins in Psycho

But there are so many good ones as you guys have already mentioned.
